3 Raising Standards With more and more organisations signing up to regulation through the FRSB, the majority of fundraising in the UK is now delivered by organisations committed to best practice, set out in the Institute of Fundraising s Code of Fundraising Practice. The core principles of legal, honest, open, and respectful In 2014 FRSB membership grew by 10% 1, FRSB Charities by Region charities and suppliers were regulated by us, committed to best practice & accountable fundraising organisations signed up to self-regulation as members of the FRSB 92% 82% of members renewed their commitment to self-regulation of fundraising charities** with annual voluntary income of 10 million and above are now FRSB members ** FRSB members as % of fundraising charities registered with the Charity Commission. This data excludes trusts, foundations, councils, umbrella bodies, arts organisations, education establishments, professional bodies and housing associations.
4 TAKING ACTION The FRSB regulates fundraising by monitoring and resolving complaints about member charities, investigating allegations of poor fundraising and working to eliminate such practice. We analysed complaints reported to member charities during On the back of almost 20 billion asks for funds, the public made 48,432 complaints. As a proportion of fundraising activity, complaints remain low and are usually resolved by the charities concerned. The FRSB published in June FRSB Complaints Report, The FRSB runs an independent 3-stage complaints process. Increasingly, the public comes to us for our support at the front end of the process and we handled 488 fundraising complaints in complaints were escalated to us for resolution at stage 2 and 6 of those went on to adjudication at stage 3. We issued benchmarking reports to 339 charities to help them identify and tackle any areas where complaints exceed those of their peer group and guided many charities on how to manage complaints and to comply with fundraising guidelines. During 2014 our Board adjudications highlighted two areas of the Code where practitioners required additional guidance. The Institute of Fundraising was quick to respond, setting up working parties to review standards and guidance for fundraising amongst people who may be vulnerable and for doorstep fundraising. The FRSB analysed fundraising complaints from 2013, reporting: 20 48,432 BILLION asks We handled 488 fundraising complaints complaints In 2014 we dealt with 17 escalated complaints and our Board carried out six adjudications. 17 escalated complaints 6 adjudications
