1 November 11, 2014 Biomedical Informatics Faculty Positions The Center for Biomedical Informatics (CBMI) at the Regenstrief Institute, Inc., a research affiliate of the Indiana University School of Medicine, is recruiting for faculty positions as listed below. We are leaders in research and development of electronic health records; health care data integration and systems interoperability; clinical decision support; biomedical informatics standards; clinical epidemiology; and global and public health informatics. We are planning to expand into areas including: integration of genomic, proteomic and related information with electronic health records; consumer health and personal health records; data analytics and visualization; research informatics; implementation science; and cognitive systems engineering/human computer interaction. Sam Regenstrief Chair in Biomedical Informatics We are seeking a dynamic and proven leader to help guide the academic, research and teaching mission of the Center. The successful candidate will help exploit the significant opportunities in clinical and translational informatics offered in one of the most diverse and collaborative healthcare markets in the nation. The Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute, several major health systems, the School of Informatics, the newly established School of Public Health and a vibrant landscape of healthcare startups offer significant opportunities for innovation, and multidisciplinary team science and development. Chief Research Informatics Officer

2 The Chief Research Informatics Officer will help advance the clinical and translational research objectives and mission of Indiana University, and the Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and their partners IU Health, Wishard/Eskenazi Health and others. The position will lead the development of informatics and IT strategies to support research, and participate in the design of infrastructures for the acquisition, management and analysis of research information. A key responsibility is to work with researchers to support their projects through research informatics. In addition, abundant opportunities for original research and teaching in biomedical informatics exist. Midcareer/senior and junior faculty positions in biomedical informatics We are looking for candidates with broad knowledge and expertise in biomedical informatics. For the midcareer/senior level, candidates must be eligible for at least the rank of associate professor and for the junior level, for the rank of assistant professor. Candidates should possess the following qualifications: MD, DO, DMD/DDS or PhD degree; training in biomedical informatics through advanced degree programs, fellowship training, or comparable experiences; and rank-appropriate proven and exemplary record of scientific discovery, peer-reviewed publications, and extramural grants and contracts. For midcareer/senior level candidates: experience as the principal investigator of large research projects; demonstrated exceptional program leadership and management; proven track record in the development and mentoring of trainees and junior faculty; and ability to promote effective teamwork in a rapidly changing multidisciplinary research environment. For junior level candidates: evidence of significant promise for relevant, independent research, and ability to work productively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment. 3 Additional Open Positions Assistant Director, Administration of the Center for Biomedical Informatics The Assistant Director, Administration is the chief administrative officer of the Center for Biomedical Informatics. Reporting to the Center Director, the position is responsible for operational management, tactical and strategic planning, policies and procedures, support of business development, marketing and communication, human resources, and facilities. The position develops, manages, and continuously improves Center administration and project management functions. The Assistant Director, Administration, will also oversee project managers/coordinators and develop a project management office. The position is also the chief liaison to the administration of Regenstrief Institute; Indiana University schools, departments and centers; and other external stakeholders. Qualified candidates will possess: Bachelor s degree in business, health administration, or related field. Master s degree in related field preferred. Five years of experience in a senior level administrative position Proven ability to manage complex, technical projects and project teams Successful experience in managing and developing a project management office preferred Successful work experience in an academic and/or research institution preferred Experience in and deep knowledge of the field of biomedical informatics preferred Experience deploying Lean Six Sigma in a healthcare or other non-manufacturing environment is preferred. Strong leadership, change management and collaboration skills Excellent skills in communicating verbally and in writing with groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public Strong background in using a variety of software applications, such as office productivity, CRM and technical software, as well as social media applications Ability to think logically in order to troubleshoot, analyze situations, and make sound decisions Ability to develop unified systems from a variety of sources to solve a problem or achieve a given business objective This position requires the physical ability to work 40 hours per week, including the flexibility to work extended hours as necessary to meet organizational needs. This position requires some physical activity, such as pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and moving (up to 20 pounds). This work is fast-paced, deadline-oriented and requires a flexible work schedule. The successful candidate will join our services delivery team, whose primary mission is to productize and support our new Gopher Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) system and other software products that are transitioning from research and development. Key Qualifications: Requires knowledge of creating web-based, JAVA, AJAX applications Requires knowledge of object-oriented analysis, design and programming Familiarity of UI Design concepts and principles Working knowledge of SQL, HTML, XML, Restful web services and familiarity of Spring projects, especially the Spring Framework Working knowledge of design patterns (such as MVC), database normalization, use of surrogate keys, etc. Working knowledge of GNU/Linux and system administration topics. 5 Systems Engineer II Our Center for Biomedical Informatics (CBMI) is seeking an individual with a passion to improve patient care and creating innovative informatics solutions. The successful candidate will join our clinical decision support (CDS) team whose primary mission is to create and implement innovative context-aware knowledge and decisionmaking tools that enhance individual patient health and health care quality. Key Qualifications: Requires proven record of creating web-based, JAVA, AJAX applications Requires strong knowledge of object-oriented analysis, design and programming. Demonstrated knowledge of API design concepts and principles Demonstrated knowledge of UI design concepts and principles Working knowledge of Spring projects, especially Spring Framework; SQL; HTML; XML; and Restful web services. Working knowledge of design patterns (such as MVC), database normalization, use of surrogate keys, etc. Experience with Agile SDLC methodologies, such as Scrum, and related concepts: Short Iterations, Daily Stand-ups, Test Driven Development (TDD), and Continuous Integration. Position Description: Under supervision of more senior software engineers the Systems Engineer II participates in the conception, design, development and implementation of clinical decision support solutions via DROOLS, JAVA, JavaScript (ZK) and other select technologies. The successful candidate will also participate in enhancing and supporting CBMI s Rule Authoring and Validation Environment tool (RAVE), and the complete Regenstrief CDS technology stack. Education: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience required. Three years of related work experience in information systems or software development is required. Prior electronic health records or health information technology work experience is preferred.
