RM-40 Overview The Goal Assuring that program streams are valid and troubleshooting any anomalies rapidly across the enterprise are critical issues for maintaining network integrity and viewer satisfaction. The StreamScope RM40 HBE product that addresses these needs by constantly monitoring multiple transport stream inputs simultaneously. The system's primary purpose is to generate alarms when a transport stream's characteristics have met certain specified criteria. This allows operational personnel and engineering team members to determine that problems have occurred and quickly resolve them. StreamScope RM40 HBE units placed at various strategic points throughout an MPEG video distribution network validate critical transformations of DTV streams as they move through the equipment chain or from one site to another for distribution. This accelerates the isolation and repair of problems when they occur.

RM-40 Overview Top Five RM-40 Features 1. All inclusive Standards & Practices Based Transport Stream Compliance Monitor for MVPD s. The RM-40 is a One Platform Solution for CALM Audio Loudness & Closed Captioning Compliance, MPEG2/4, H.264, AC3 Audio Monitoring, PSIP & DVB-SI compliance, and MDI IP based analysis. The RM-40 can Monitor Alert, Report, and Log on events with or without an enterprise controller. As part of a fleet of monitors or placed as a dedicated low cost monitoring solution, the RM-40 provides a balanced and very flexible solution for CDN monitoring. 2. Detailed reports and Historical Post Mortem Analysis. MVPD s can essentially rewind the monitor and analyze or trend key service impacting event. The RM-40 is a great tool to capture intermittent bothersome issues. The RM-40 reports generators support high detailed or simple summary reports for QoS, CALM, CC, and EAS that can be automatically delivered to users and managers clients. 3. Superior Analysis Throughput. The RM-40 High Bandwidth Edition provides the MVPD the ability to monitor up to 2Gbps over duel GbE interfaces. No restrictions are in place for how the analysis bandwidth is allocated to services making it very flexible for small or large MVPD s. Other RM-40 models scale to the MVPD s BW requirements well. 4. The RM-40 s Transport and Program Stream Comparison feature allows the MVPD to make an unlimited number of long or short term comparisons of Transport Streams and programs. Services monitored on a given input can be compared to the same services on the RF or ASI or IP inputs. Upon a change in transport construct, metadata structure, or bit rate detection, the RM-40 will alert the operator and log the difference observed. This aids to faster fault isolation and issue verification reducing troubleshooting while decreasing MtR time. 5. Easy to Use, Manage, and Highly Customizable features allow the RM-40 to be applied to most any MVPD s CDN. Triggers and Reports can be sent to specific key elements or people in the network and be tailored for their needs. The RM-40 provides the user the ability to increase or decrease sensitivity for monitoring, alerts, or reporting with a keen eye on providing useful and active information.

Program Spark lines allow for rapid QoS determinations and fast Drill Down to Program and PES layer issues. CC and CALM monitoring can be scheduled and or fulltime. Service Thumbnails and Bitrate views allow the User to see Program status. Event counts and QoS show current health of a Program.
Use Case - Closed Captioning Monitoring The RM-40 is continually monitoring the CC service and announcements in the program streams The RM-40 can generate detailed CC reports with program thumbnails and CC text. FCC non complaint CC event are recorded for later recall in historical reports. Current support for 2015 FCC CC R&O
Report & Order (February Rules) Accuracy Dialog, sound, music and speakers Synchronicity Time and speed Completeness Full duration of program Placement CC can not be over faces, key graphics or onscreen text
Use Case Audio Loudness Monitoring (CALM) The RM-40 is continually monitoring the CC service and announcements in the program streams The RM-40 can generate detailed CC reports with program thumbnails and CC text. FCC non complaint CC event are recorded for later recall in historical reports. Current support for 2015 FCC CC R&O

RM-40 Monitoring using the new Services Dashboard Services are banded based upon the QoS score Spark Link Shows the numerical QoS value over the analysis profile period
RM-40 Monitoring using the new Summary Dashboard 1: The top of the dialog identifies the service being displayed. All of the service names and their sources, along with the service's transport and port name are provided. 2: The current thumbnail is displayed, if thumbnail processing is enabled. The thumbnail will only update when the dialog updates even though many more thumbnails may have been processed in the interim. 3: Provides the last update time for the profile driving the rules, QoS, and priority. This is NOT the update time of the dialog or the underlying dashboard. The dialog updates are approximately twice as fast as the profile updates. 4: Links to a detail level report for the last minute up to the time shown. A new tab or window will open showing the progress of the report generation prior to displaying the report. 5: Provides a link to the most recent 24-hour CALM Service Details Report for the service, if available. Please notice that the time of the most recent report could be days in the past due to the CALM Spot Check sub-system processing only select transports periodically. The report will open in a separate tab or window.
RM-40 Monitoring using the new Summary Dashboard 6: Causes a 24-hour interactive time line report to be generated in another tab or window. 7: Opens a Video Wall Thumbnail Report for the service in another tab or window. 8: Generates a 24-hour Top Level Closed Captioning Report for the service. The report is opened in another tab or window. 9: Displays the channel number of the service. If not specified in the Service Configuration, the channel number will be derived from metadata in the transport stream. 10: Shows the current quality of service (QoS) for the service and a color which matches the corresponding service rectangle shown on the Summary Dashboard bands. The title bar and frame of the dialog are also set to the QoS color.
RM-40 Monitoring using the new Summary Dashboard 11: Provides the current priority of the service. The priority is the highest priority (1 being the highest) of all the rules observed at the last update. 12: Displays the Level of Interest for the particular service as defined by the Service Configuration or through the Service Station. By default, services have a 'Medium' Level of Interest. 13: Indicates the cluster used when processing the rules for the most recent update. 14: Provides the average bit rate for this service over the last update interval. This includes the bit rates of all elementary streams comprising with the service. 15: Shows the list of Events detected at the last update. 'Events' is another name for the rules that were observed at the last update.
