Applications, general information, and instructions are available on the AAHRA website at All applications MUST be returned electronically. Applications are in a fillable PDF file, please complete form on-line, print out for signatures, scan ALL required documentation, and to Pat Weeks at pweeks@huntsvillehousing.org. Please read the general information and instructions carefully for eligibility requirements and the application procedure. There are two separate application forms; one is for high school seniors or recent high school graduates, and the other is for adult applicants seeking post-secondary education. Please be sure to use the appropriate application for each of your entries. Scholarship awards are not limited to graduating high school seniors planning on a four-year degree. Consideration will be given to adults participating in a Family Self-Sufficiency Program or equivalent welfare-to-work programs, and to those working toward an associate s degree or career trade. The committee will also consider applicants who are requesting special career training or education for persons with disabilities. Please read the instructions carefully and submit your application(s) as soon as possible. All supporting documents must be submitted with each application in order for the applicant to be eligible for consideration. Remember to include your letter of sponsorship, and review all applications for completeness prior to submission. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 2 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS GENERAL INFORMATION 1. All scholarship applications must be submitted electronically and received by Pat Weeks at on or before 12:00 NOON, April 2, The AHAEEF/AAHRA Scholarship and Exhibitor/Professional Scholarship Awards will be made to a resident of a public housing authority program (to include Section 8 programs) in the State of Alabama who has maintained that status for two (2) consecutive years prior to April 2, All applicants entering college, trade, or technical school for the first time must expect to receive a Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate by July 3, Applicants continuing their college careers, regardless of age are eligible to apply for the scholarships. Prior year applicants and recipients are eligible to apply again for the scholarship. Scholarships may only be awarded a maximum of 4 years to the same recipients. 4. The Executive Director Memorial Scholarship will be made to a current employee or an immediate family member of a current employee of a public housing authority in the State of Alabama. The employee must have been employed by a public housing authority for at least two (2) consecutive years, and the recipient must have been living with the employee for the period and be graduating high school senior or continuing their college career. 5. Funds are to be utilized by July 3, Funds may be used at accredited universities and colleges, community colleges, and trade/technical schools. If awardee needs an extension due to unforeseen circumstances, a request must be sent in writing to the AHAEEF, Inc. Board, which has the discretion to approve or deny the extension. The grantee s failure to continue the required course of study will cause the unused portion of funds to revert to AHAEEF for award to another applicant. 6. Each application from a current high school senior applicant must contain the following support documentation: Proof of academic performance Proof of ACT score. Letter of recommendation from a teacher of an academic class Letter of recommendation from school official other than teacher (principal or guidance counselor) Letter of sponsorship from Executive Director of sponsoring housing authority 7. Each application from an adult applicant must contain the following support documentation: If currently enrolled in college/university, or other post-secondary school, proof of enrollment and transcripts At least 2 letters of recommendation - personal (non-relative) Letter of recommendation - professional

The AHAEEF Board will convene for the purpose of selecting the finalists after reviewing all applications received. The applications from high school students will be judged primarily on academic achievements; however, extracurricular school and community activities and achievements will also be considered. Success in core curriculum courses will have a bearing on the weight given to academic achievements. The applications from adult applicants will be judged primarily on recommendations, resume and personal essays. If evaluation results are too close to judge, a high school or college counselor may be selected to judge the applications and possibly to interview the top three or more finalists. 9. The sponsoring housing authority shall provide travel and/or lodging for the applicant s interview, if needed, and to the scholarship award ceremony for winners. 10. The scholarship awards will be presented during the AAHRA Annual Conference annual luncheon at the Bay Point Marriott, Panama City Beach, Tuesday, August 17, 2010.
