2 Introduction The development of the telecommunication market and the stronger competition among operators combined with the introduction of new players (such as Mobile Virtual Network Operators - MVNO) have enabled a substantial improvement of the services offered to customers. The delivery of these services envisages a substantial and fast integration of heterogeneous network elements leveraging the most advanced and reliable architectures and models. 3 RNM Concepts RNM is based on the approach described by Sun in Telecom Network Management With Enterprise JavaBeans Technology. RNM provides a set of services typically including the connection with network nodes, business systems and databases, network topology management, alarm management and reporting services. RNM envisages the use of a EJB container as administration framework. Multiple network interfaces can be developed by using EJB Connectors. Higher-level interfaces are developed according to recognized standards. 3

4 RNM: The Framework RNM is the enterprise solution aimed at ensuring the monitoring and status analysis of a telecommunication network through the control of traffic parameters and resource availability as required in order to guarantee network efficiency and a high service quality. RNM is based on a modular architecture developed with J2EE technology and ensures stability, scalability and security; moreover, it enables integration with databases, business information systems and network elements. Standard services have been used for network communication, transactions (JTA), database access (JDBC), messaging (JMS), access to naming and directory services (JNDI), , XML management and Web services. 4
