1 Access English Centre Immigrant Centre Manitoba Summer Fun Activities & word Bingo 60 Minutes Beginner Level Warm-up - & Work-Out: - Materials: Participants need: Bingo card, chips or marker Facilitator needs: White board and white board marker. A set of pictures of summer, a set of summer activity vocabulary picture, and word cards. Bingo caller s card and the vocabulary list of summer. Preparation needed: You will need one set of cut out words and pictures about the summer activity vocabulary for each pair of two students. Procedure: Introduce the Activity Warm-up activity: (15 minutes) Review summer activity vocabulary by holding up the pictures and words, and asking the Whole group to repeat the pronunciation. (10 min) Introduce the word hobby - the activity that you would like to do in your spare time. Tell the whole group your hobby by saying: Fishing and are my hobbies. Ask the whole group to repeat with you What is your hobby? several times. Ask students work in partners to practice What is your hobby? My hobby is? (10 min) Work-out activity: (45 minutes) 1) Introduce how to use the summer activity vocabulary in frame sentences such as In summer, I like Or In summer, I don t like. Or In summer, do you like to? Or, What do you like to do in summer? (10 min) 2) Demonstrate or model the exercises with a volunteer learner: (5 min) For example: A: I n summer, do you like camping? B: Yes, in summer, I like camping. Or: A: What do you like to do in summer? B: In summer, I like. (Or: "In summer, I like gardening.") 3) Students use the picture and word cards. They draw a picture or word card from the Pile and use the word in a sentence. They can use the frame sentences Do you like in summer? or What do you like to do in summer? or one of their own sentences, if they know how to use the word in other sentences. (15 min) 4) Play the Bingo game (15 min). Say the word in one of the frame sentences. The learners repeat the sentence out loud after the teacher and look for the key word on their card. Encourage natural linking in the sentences ("Whaddaya like to do in...") (15 minutes) Answers to the sentences "I like..." Cut out along the dotted lines
