Demonstrate the skills used in preparing for a professional certification assessment. 2. Use communication techniques that demonstrate respect for a client s social, emotional, and mental health. 3. Satisfactorily perform the basic skills of nursing, personal care, and restorative services. 4. Demonstrate behavior that promotes residents rights. 5. Interact appropriately, effectively and sensitively with members of the health care team. 5/06 HS 1
2 Power Standard: Demonstrate the skills used in preparing for a professional certification assessment. (1) A. CNA scope of practice. B. WI requirements for caregiver; bars to certification and rehabilitation review procedures. C. Requirements for initial certification and renewal of certification. D. Knowledge and skills assessed on the state competency test. 1. Differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate CAN actions in clinical settings. 2. Read and complete Caregiver Background forms. 3. Complete tuberculosis screen. 4. Meet 85% attendance requirement. 5. Complete test enrollment and identification procedures. 6. Practice skills and take state test. 5/06 HS 2
3 Power Standard: Use communication techniques that demonstrate respect for a client s social, emotional, and mental health. (2) A. Recognize common barriers to communication. B. Recognize abnormal signs and symptoms. C. Procedures for charting patient information. 1. Demonstrate communication techniques for patients with language, visual, hearing, speech or memory impairments. 2. Complete body systems book of abnormal signs and symptoms for each system. 3. Chart vital signs. 4. Chart intake / output. 5. List signs to be reported as well as recorded. 6. Interpret and carry out patient care plan. 5/06 HS 3
4 Power Standard: Satisfactorily perform the basic skills of nursing, personal care, and restorative services. (3) A. Procedures for infection control and safety. B. Principles of body mechanics. C. Personal care skills. D. Basic nursing skills. E. Basic rehabilitation skills. 1. Demonstrate handwashing, gloving, gowning. 2. Demonstrate techniques for lifting and transferring patients. 3. Demonstrate care skills including, but not limited to bathing, am/pm cares, bedmaking. 4. Demonstrate nursing skills including, but not limited to I/O, vital signs, catheter care, positioning. 5. Demonstrate rehabilitation skills including, but not limited to passive range of motion exercises and assisting with ambulation. 5/06 HS 4
