9 THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM The International Baccalaureate program is an internationally recognized program of studies which is available to highly motivated 11th and 12th grade students. The program offers the rigor, the structure, and the experiences necessary to challenge academically talented students. Students in IB classes complete a series of examinations based on internationally established standards. The IB program is a holistic philosophy of learning that seeks to address the intellectual, philosophical and social development of the student.

10 THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM The IB DP is a two year program of studies across disciplines, the components of which are: Successful completion of courses in six different subject areas Internal and external assessments and examinations in each area Participation in the CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) Program Completion of the TOK (Theory of Knowledge) course The writing and submission of an Extended Essay in an area of interest to the student

18 IB Middle Years Program IB MYP is designed for students in grades The program consists of eight subject groups integrated through five areas of interaction that provide a framework for learning within and across the eight required subjects: English (Language A) Science Second Language (Language B) Social Studies (Humanities) Mathematics Physical Education Arts Technology In the final year of the program (grade 10), students engage in a personal project which demonstrates their understandings and skills.

19 Northville s IB Timeline August 2009 IB report presented to the Board of Education. Board approves MYP & DP Plan Partnership with Northville Educational Foundation (NEF) for funding with the purpose to build understanding, capacity, and support Begin to participate in IB workshops, trainings, support groups, etc. Submit the School Information forms to IB North America. January 2011 School Interest Form Submitted

20 Northville s IB MYP Timeline Begin training and develop one unit that complies with the MYP guidelines. Prior to April 2012 MYP Application for Candidacy to be submitted to IB North America Continue training and developing units Apply for Authorization at the MYP Level. Receive acceptance and perhaps award MYP Certification for students who qualify All Secondary Schools (Grades 6 10) authorized as IB MYP World Schools. Current 8 th Grade Students are the first class eligible to earn a MYP Certificate in 10 th grade.

21 Northville s IB DP Timeline Submit School Information form. Begin coordinator training Submit Application for Candidacy. Attend training sessions, workshops, etc. Begin to design a unit that complies with IB DP requirements Continue training sessions. Submit Application for Authorization Authorization visit and acceptance Begin to graduate students with an IB diploma Current 8 th Grade Students are the first class eligible to earn an IB Diploma in 12 th grade.
