2 Caroline County Regional Fire School Caroline County High School April 11-12, 2015 The Virginia Department of Fire Programs, the Caroline County Department of Fire and Rescue and the Caroline County Volunteer Emergency Units Organization will conduct the 21 st Annual Caroline County Regional School on April 11 th and 12 th, 2015 Registration Fee A $40.00 NON-REFUNDABLE registration fee is required to register for the Caroline County Regional School. This registration fee covers school costs, lunch on Saturday and the Famous Steak Feast on Saturday night (April 11 th ). Make checks payable to the CCVEUO (Caroline County Volunteer Emergency Units Organization) Registration Registration will open on the VDFP FSTRS website on Monday January 26 th. Paper registration forms will also be accepted after that date. All pre-requisites are required at the time of registration. Registration fees are due to VDFP accompanying the paper registration form or no more than 30 days after an on-line registration has been made, but no later than March 31 st. Registration closes March 31 st, Check In and Opening Ceremonies All students must check-in at Caroline High School between 7:15 AM and 8:00 AM. All students are requested to park in the lot located to the west end of the complex. Opening exercises will begin promptly at 8:00 AM. Classroom assignments will be provided at the conclusion of the opening exercises. The Caroline Famous Steak Feast will be held at the Bowling Green Town Hall (located next door to the Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department). The food, drink, and fellowship will begin around 5:45 p.m. Door prizes will be given away. Please make sure to attend this enjoyable event. Books Books and materials will be provided for classes as needed. Directions Using Interstate 95 north or south, use exit 104. Get off exit onto Route 207 (Rogers Clark Blvd) heading East towards Bowling Green. Travel route 207 for six miles. Caroline High School is located on the right hand side of the road. 3 Class Descriptions Mayday Technician Rapid Intervention Team Company Operations Description: This course builds on the Mayday Firefighter Down program. The mission of this class is to provide training for a company of four to six firefighters made into teams. The following subjects will be covered: case studies, preparing for survival, firefighter rescue, RIT team components, review of self-rescue techniques, and practical exercises of rescue team techniques. Prerequisites: Firefighter Level I, or the three modules of the Fire Attack Series (Fire Attack Essentials, Fire Attack Intermediate, Fire Attack Evolutions), Hazardous Materials Operations, Mayday! Firefighter Down Equipment: Full PPE and SCBA with a spare bottle. Special Note: The Practical evolutions are very labor intensive and require a high degree of physical fitness Rope Rescuer Level II Description: 24 hour program includes classroom and practical training in high-lines. Prerequisites: VDFP Rope I Course (new), or Rope II (old). Student must be minimum 18 years of age. Equip. Req: Helmet, leather gloves and boots, secondary eye protection Hours: 24 Note: The third day of class will be held Monday April 13, Vehicle Rescue Level 1 Description: This 16-hour program includes classroom and practical training which applies to those incidents involving common passenger vehicles and environments where rescuer s intervention does not constitute a high level of risk based upon the environment or other factors. Prerequisites: Students must be 18 years old, Have Hazardous Materials Operations, and have completed Introduction to Technical Rescue Module II Equip Req: Full turnout gear with secondary eye protection Case Study based EMS CE hours (ALS and BLS Cat 1 hours) Description: This case study based EMS program will offer Category 1 CE hours for both ALS and BLS providers. Case studies will include Trauma, Cardiac and Medical scenarios. Instructors specialize in a variety of fields and include talents from PHI Air Medical, Bon Secours Health System and Caroline County Fire Rescue. Prerequisites: This program is open to both ALS and BLS providers. Equip Req: None Category 1 CE hours Maximum Enrollment: 30 Students.

4 EMT-Basic Required Topic Hours Description: This program will cover the 24 hours of category one (1) hours that are required for Virginia EMT-Basic recertification. Prerequisites: BLS certification. Equip Req: None Hours: 24 Category 1 CE hours Maximum Enrollment: 24 Students Note: The third day of class will be held Saturday April 18 th. Rail Safety for Emergency Responders AND Amtrak Passenger Train Emergency Responder Description: CSX: Operation Lifesaver s classroom course, Rail Safety for Emergency Responders, is available nationally for training emergency response professionals including fire, EMS, emergency management agencies, military and homeland security personnel. The program teaches first responders the key safety elements involved when they work around the dangers inherent in a railroad environment. This course provides emergency responders with information critical for railroad incident response including safe response, knowledge of railroad electrical, fuel and air systems, hazardous materials, identifying rolling stock, pinch points, stopping training, high/low pressure tank cads, and other on-scene dangers. Description: Amtrak: This class will cover pre-planning for railroad emergencies, railroad precautions, equipment familiarization, passenger car construction, passenger evacuation, forcible entry, propulsion systems, crew orientation, hazards, on-board emergency equipment, emergency exits, grade-crossing accidents and bridges and tunnels. Prerequisites: none Equip Req: none Hours: 8 hours per day, 16 total Preparation for Initial Company Operations - (PICO) (Formerly Managing Company Tactical Operations: Preparation) Description: This course is designed to develop a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a Company Officer in preparing their company for incident operations. In addition, to clarify the transition from firefighter to company officer and the new roles relating to leadership and safety. This course is designed for company officers, acting company officers, or senior firefighters responsible for the management of a single fire company at an emergency incident. Prerequisites: Students must be 18 years old, or have Firefighter I and have IS100, IS200, and IS700 Equip. Req: None hours

5 Rural Water Supply Description: A course designed for the rural fire department that depends heavily on tanker shuttles to provide water at the fireground. Course consists of classroom training on equipment needed, apparatus placement on the fireground and the fill site, safety and extensive hands on training conducting tanker shuttles under realistic conditions. Prerequisites: Students must be 18 years old and have EVOC class 3 from a recognized source Equip Req: Helmet, gloves, steel toe boots, Students are encouraged to bring apparatus Youth Firesetting Prevention and Intervention, Level I Description: This two day course is based on the requirements of NFPA 1035 pertaining to the Youth Firesetting Intervention Specialist Level I. This course empowers students with a broad understanding of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the Youth Firesetting Intervention Specialist I program participant. Prerequisites: 18 years of age, Criminal History Record. Click here to access the class requirements Equip Req: None Foam Technician Level 1 National Foam Description: Foam Technician Level 1 focuses on Foam Operations at Ethanol and Crude Oil Transportation Events. This program includes both classroom and hands-on hours. Topics cover an introduction to crude oil, ethanol/gasoline blends with characteristics, fire behavior and distribution/transportation considerations. Firefighting foam topics such as storage, interactions, concentrations, environmental impacts and logistical support. Foam proportioners and appliances will also be discussed to further understand the equipment, expansions, safety aspects and demonstrations. Prerequisites: Students must be 18 years old, or have Firefighter I Equip Req: Full Turnout gear. BPO/ RWS TtT Description: This class teaches instructors to properly plan for and deliver both the Rural Water Supply and Basic Pump Operations training programs. The program consists of both lectures and practical skills to include a Teach Back to the class. Prerequisites: Fire Instructor I, Hazardous Materials Operations, Basic Pump Operations, Rural Water Supply. Within 30 days of registration, but by March 31 st students must take the pretest for admittance. Equip Req: Helmet, Steel Toe Boots, Gloves, Eye Protection

When submitting the application, please note the following: 1. A $40.00 NON-REFUNDABLE registration fee is required to be submitted with the school application. The registration fee covers school administrative costs, lunch Saturday and the Steak Feast on Saturday night. If you are not accepted into a class requested your check will be returned. 2.
