2 Trinity School Trinity School is an HMC independent day school with c.950 students, aged The school is all boys up to Year 11 but since September 2011 we have welcomed girls into our Sixth Form. The school is one of three governed by the Whitgift Foundation (founded in 1596 by the Archbishop of Canterbury, John Whitgift), the others being Whitgift School for boys and Old Palace School for girls. Trinity has been on its present site since 1965, when it moved from the centre of Croydon to a new complex of buildings and playing fields in the Green Belt. The grounds are some 27 acres in extent, and there are additional playing fields in Sandilands, ten minutes walk from the school. The resources of the Whitgift Foundation enable the school to offer outstanding facilities. The original 1965 building has been greatly extended, including the Berthoud Centre for Music, the Mitre Theatre and the Shaw Building, which houses Art, Design and Sports departments. We have recently completed a new multi million pound classroom block, a first class Performing Arts venue, a refurbished swimming pool and a new state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre. The main ages of admission are 10, 11, 13 and 16. Entry is by competitive examination held in the Spring Term and this year there were 620 applicants for 157 places. Parents whose income falls below a specified threshold are eligible for a bursary and this enables the school to attract pupils from a wide range of backgrounds. Some 50% of the school receives some form of fee remission. The curriculum is broad in the first years. Core subjects at GCSE are English, English Literature, up to two Modern Languages, Mathematics, and three Sciences. These and three or four other optional subjects are taken at the end of the Fifth Form. Most students in the Sixth Form study four or five subjects at AS-level, together with a wide range of General Studies, and three or four subjects for A2. In 2012 the A-level A*-A pass rate was 65.1%, with over 91% at grades A* to B. At GCSE just over 76% of grades were A* or A. Almost all students go on to university, with normally around 10% of the Upper 6 th gaining offers from Oxford or Cambridge. The school is divided into the Junior School (National Curriculum Years 6 to 9) and the Upper School (NC 10-13) with each Year Group overseen by a Head of Year. There is a generous staffing ratio, and all members of the Common Room assist with out-of-class activities, of which there is an exceptionally wide range. Music at Trinity has an international reputation, and each year the Trinity Boys Choir is involved in a varied programme of demanding professional work. Drama flourishes and the school has two fully equipped modern theatres as well as a drama studio. There are also many societies for students of all ages, and regular visits are arranged to concerts, plays and exhibitions. There is a CCF, and large numbers participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. The main sports include athletics, cricket, cross-country, hockey, football, rugby, swimming, tennis and water polo. Trinity is a member of the Trinity Group, twenty-one leading Independent Schools whose Heads of Department and other senior staff meet annually. We are committed to teacher training and receive students from the Institute of Education. We also provide a programme of INSET for staff, and fund attendance at a variety of courses. The school has its own salary scale which is well above the National Scale. Lunches are provided free and many of the facilities of the school are open to staff and their families during holidays as well as term time. Sons and daughters of members of staff may be educated at Trinity for one-third of the school fee and sons or daughters educated at Whitgift or Old Palace for two-thirds of the fee. 3 PLUMBING AND HEATING ENGINEER Reporting to: Purpose: Estates Manager To operate, maintain and adapt all HVAC Mechanical Services at Trinity School working alongside the Maintenance Team and Support Staff as required and to ensure the Maintenance Department runs effectively. Key Responsibilities To maintain the plumbing and drainage services throughout the School and its associated properties. To modify, maintain or adapt plumbing and drainage services including sanitary ware, responding to requests for attention or assistance promptly. To operate and control the heating, air handling and air conditioning plant and equipment throughout the School and its associated properties. To be responsible for ensuring that heating requirements are met for all school events by reference to the School Diary and other sources of information. To operate and maintain the swimming pool plant and equipment, with particular reference to maintaining good water quality with regular, consistent and accurate water testing and chemical dosing together with best practice in pool management. To maintain accurate written records of all testing results and water temperatures. To service and supply all salt requirements for water softeners around the School site. To liaise with external contractors and consultants in the technical maintenance of commercial and domestic boiler plant, air handling and air conditioning equipment as required. To liaise with external contractors and consultants in maintaining the quality of water throughout the School and its associated properties and to ensure that best practice is followed in maintaining the hygienic and wholesome condition of shower equipment and water storage. To maintain accurate written records of all testing results and water temperatures for across-site sampling and chlorination procedures. To maintain a good regard for energy and water environmental conservation ensuring that plant is operated efficiently to adequately meet the needs of the users of the School. To be responsible for ordering chemicals for the treatment of the swimming pool, salt for the water softeners and such other chemicals or industrial gases as may be required from time to time. To provide general light metal work fabrication or engineering services to the School as required involving welding, soldering or brazing. To maintain the Boiler Room, Pool Plant Room and all other plant rooms in a clean and tidy condition and maintaining all supplementary equipment in good order and state of readiness for use without notice. To ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with the School s Health and Safety Policy.

4 To undertake any training and development as required and maintain specialist skills and knowledge This job description is not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake other appropriate duties as directed by the Estates Manager. Person Specification It is desirable that the successful candidate will have: Good basic education in numeracy and literacy to GCSE level C or equivalent Relevant heating and plumbing qualifications Basic ICT skills Previous experience of working as a heating and plumbing engineer on commercial plant Experience of managing own workload Experience of working within a team The ability to work well under pressure The ability to work to agreed deadlines, prioritising as appropriate and effective time management skills The ability to work independently and as part of a team Self motivation and the ability to work unsupervised A friendly and co-operative disposition High attention to detail with good record keeping skills The ability to deal with requests and situations calmly A positive problem-solving attitude The ability to work efficiently and courteously Good organisational skills and the ability to multi-task The ability to be flexible and adaptable The ability to be supportive, helpful and responsive to colleagues Enthusiasm and commitment towards the standards and values of Trinity School Prepared to work hours flexibly and to respond to emergency callouts or out of hours working Terms and Conditions Hours: Leave: Salary: Start date: Probation: This is a full-time post working 8.00am-5.00pm per week throughout the school year.
