6 1 DESIGN BIBLE Your app needs design. Actually, it is all about design. That s why we recommend that the actual development is preceded with a design bible phase, during which the application structure, visual design and production art will be crafted, and the protocol of communication with the 3 rd party systems (if any) will be defined. As part of its primary function of defining key system elements at the beginning of the project, the pre-study is aimed at putting into tangible shape the once vague concept, which is extremely important for a mobile application to become a success. 7 QUICK NOTES Unlike for web systems, we develop a "design bible" rather than "functional specification" during the pre-study for a number of reasons: For an ordinary web system it might not be possible (and even necessary) to document user interface requirements at a level of great detail; for the mobile, however, the interface is more essential, and at the same time way simpler to document in details due to the nature of the mobile devices and the trend of simplicity. Furthermore, the interface on the ios and Android apps is very important to conform to the guidelines from Apple and other vendors, hence some of the requirements might be written differently taking that into account. On the mobile devices, there are various gestures to be implemented which are hard to document in a plain specification and are easier to be graphically defined.
