3 The Business Problem (Production) Lack of IT support to manufacturing Assembly Equipment from multiple vendors, assembly lines from multiple integrators Needed to share data in real-time across assembly stations and assembly lines Needed to ensure six sigma quality and serial number traceability Needed collection of all assembly data such as torque, leak tests, final testing, probes, balance, etc. Machining Issues connecting to the variety of different types of machines to see if they were running or idle Needed a way to easily store and visualize the data

8 Solution - Test Labs New Thought process Combination of traditional and agile approach Combination of.net and LabVIEW Use the strength of each tool Few LabVIEW developers have solid database and web service skills Few.NET developers have data acquisition control skills All UI is.net utilizing web services to the database All data acquisition is done by LabVIEW All communication between LabVIEW and.net is over Ethernet

12 Lessons Learned Legacy knowledge may not always be the best Adaption to a new way of thinking takes time With entirely new processes an agile approach is essential Initial resistance to change was high from some, but after initial implementation the acceptance was high
