2 COSMETOLOGY INSTRUCTOR The Cosmetology Instruct curriculum provides a course of study f learning the skills needed to teach the they and practice of cosmetology as required by the Nth Carolina Board of Cosmetic Arts. Coursewk includes requirements f becoming an instruct, introduction to teaching they, methods and aids, practice teaching, and development of evaluation instruments. Coastal Carolina Community College offers a Certificate. This has been identified as a limited enrollment program and may involve certain deadlines. See an academic counsel f additional infmation. The appropriate coursewk is listed below. Step 2 Submit all official transcript(s) to the Coastal Carolina Community College Admissions Office. Official transcripts must be secured from: - Previous high school/ged and - All post-secondary schools attended, including cosmetology school and appropriate state cosmetology board transcripts. Candidates with previous cosmetology training from a Nth Carolina public/private program (other than CCCC) must seek an official state board transcript with the official seal from that school, to be maintained in the student s permanent file in the Cosmetology Department. If f any reason it cannot be provided by the school then the State Board can be contacted: Nth Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners 1207 Front Street Suite 110 Raleigh, NC Office (919) , Fax (919) Step 3 - Receive the following minimum placement test sces on the NC DAP, COMPASS, ASSET, SAT, ACT Accuplacer/CPT test. NC DAP* COMPASS ASSET SAT ACT ACCUPLACER/CPT Reading/ English 151 Writing 70 Writing 41 Writing 520 Writing 21 English 86 DMA 010 2** Reading 81 Reading 41 Reading 520 Reading 22 Reading 80 Pre-Algebra 21 Numerical 32 Mathematics 540 Mathematics 23 Mathematics 27 *During the 2015/2016 calendar year, the NC Community College System will continue the transition to the Nth Carolina Diagnostic Assessment and Placement (NC DAP) test. Students who take the NC DAP test are required to make a minimum sce of 151 f the Reading and English section and a minimum sce of 2* f the DMA 010 Math section to meet the placement test sce requirements f the Cosmetology Instruct program. **sces below 2 on the NC DAP Math test may choose to take the TABE test at Continuing Education. Only test sces which have been earned within the past five (5) years from the start of the program will be considered. A prospective candidate may retake the entire placement test twice within a twelve month period. 1
4 Any prospective candidate who does not receive the necessary minimum placement test sces in the identified areas listed above should: (1) review in the Academic Studies Center (2) take the appropriate remedial course(s) suggested based on the test results befe retesting. Placement test waivers may be granted by an Academic Counsel f the reading and writing ptions of the placement test if the prospective candidate has successfully completed ENG 090 and RED 090, DRE 098, DRE 099, a higher level English course. The math ption of the placement test may be waived if the student has successfully completed MAT 050 a higher level Math course. Placement test waiver courses will only count if completed after the second attempt of the placement test. (Students may take the placement test twice in a twelve month period). Completion of College composition, ENG 111 equivalent, and a College level math course, 100 level higher, will replace the placement test requirement. Step 4 Submit a copy of his/her current Nth Carolina Cosmetologist License. Step 5 Submit proof of at least two years of salon experience pri to program entry. Step 6 After completing Steps 1 through 5, meet with the Academic Counsel over the program to seek full admissions into the Cosmetology Instruct Certificate Program. There are 7 seats available f the Cosmetology Instruct program. Enrollment f qualified candidates is on a first come/first served basis. Qualified candidates may enter the Cosmetology Instruct Certificate Program during the fall semester, only. Qualified candidates, not initially admitted to the Cosmetology Instruct Program, will be alternates and admitted to the program if and when an accepted candidate declines his/her seat. Alternates not admitted to the Cosmetology Instruct Program must reactivate their admission packets with a counsel if they wish to be considered f the next class. The tuition listed above is based on the in-state rate of $72.00 per credit hour. The out-of-state tuition rate is $ per credit hour. The Professional Liability Insurance fee is included in the bill f tuition and related fees. Tuition and fees do not include payments required f the licensing exam. Students will be responsible f examination fees and related expenses. It is the student s responsibility to purchase any additional tools supplies required f the state licensing exam. Candidates should consider miscellaneous expenses such as childcare, meals, gas, notebooks, pens, paper, planner, etc. Methods of payment: check, cash, money der, credit debit cards (VISA, Master Card, American Express Discover) financial aid, MYCAA, and VA educational entitlements. Candidates must secure any Pell Grant and/ scholarship awards pri to enrolling in the program. 2
5 NOTES Computer knowledge is required f candidates of the Cosmetology Instruct Certificate Program. Strong wking knowledge of Microsoft Office software will be necessary in der to complete lesson plan preparation and other assignments. In accdance with the Nth Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners, students must provide the following on the first day of class: 1. Social Security Card Tax ID card Student Visa infmation AND 2. Current Government issued ID and proof of date of birth. Students will not be permitted to begin training unless proof of identification has been provided pri to the first day of class. Unifms of plain black scrubs and white leather shoes are required. Candidates admitted to the Cosmetology Instruct Program must wear their clean unifms, name tags, and white leather shoes every class meeting, beginning the first class meeting. FACIAL PIERCINGS ARE NOT PERMITTED WHILE IN UNIFORM. TRAINING IN INFECTION CONTROL PROCEDURES No candidate will be allowed to deliver client services in any setting until he/she has been instructed in infection control (as per OSHA guidelines) and has mastered material on safety/universal precautions with satisfacty accuracy. Following mastery of infection control skills and under faculty supervision, each candidate will be expected to provide services f clients with health deviations, including clients with HIV/HBV and other blood bne/infectious diseases, as part of routine clinical/lab curriculum experiences. Also, it is recommended that candidates entering the Cosmetology Instruct Program receive a flu shot and Hepatitis series in der to safeguard their own health while wking with the public in the clinic setting. COMMUNICABLE DISEASE STATEMENT On the first class meeting, a candidate who enters the Cosmetology Instruct Program will be required to read and sign a communicable disease statement and waiver of liability fm. This fm will become a part of each candidate s permanent recd and will state that the candidate: 1. Has been infmed of his/her risk f exposure to blood and body fluids. 2. Understands the potential f transmission of blood bne diseases during client care activities. 3. Agrees to service all clients that are assigned to him/her. 3
