Long term data archiving with icas Alternative to TSM (SSAM) Thomas Kässheimer Partner Manager, iternity GmbH 1

Situation with TSM (SSAM) SSAM is discontinued for IBM CMOD on iseries System Storage Archive Manager (SSAM) is a variation of Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) which is made for compliant archiving and is key component in IA and DR550. IBM discontinued DR550 and IA and also the further development of SSAM for IBM CMOD on i-series Customers have to choose for an alternative archive backend until the support for SSAM wit CMOD on iseries ends As an IBM technology partner iternity can provide an hardwareindependent software called icas to replace solutions like DR550/ IA and SSAM with standard hardware 2

Agenda Introduction iternity Requirements for Compliant Archiving icas (iternity Compliant Archive Software) Security Flexibility Cost-efficiency Benefits of icas Summary lower TCO References Questions and answers 3

Company overview Specialized in compliant archiving Established 2004 Headquarter: Freiburg Germany International representations in Europe and USA More than 600 customers from different industries icas patented in Europe since 2011 and USA since

Compliance Requirements Requirements based on various legal regulations (GdPDU, AO, Basel III, SOX etc.) Data must be tamper proof Data cannot be deleted (WORM) Data must be kept for a specific time period (retention) Data has to be migrated to future storage media Industry specific demands GxP Data (Pharma), SEC17a4 (Banking), HIPAA, patient record (Healthcare), product liability (Automotive) Internal demands for important data Protection from data breach (deletion, destruction, theft) 5

How were archiving requirements solved until today? Dedicated storage appliances for archiving Disadvantages: Vendor-Lock Migrations to other platforms are time- and cost-intensive Re-licensing of the archive with every hardware-lifecycle Licensing also on unused archiving space Proprietary solutions cause high effort for operation and maintenance Examples: EMC Centera, Hitachi HCP, NetApp Snaplock, IBM DR550 / IA (discontinued) Eliminate that disadvantages with icas and Standard-Hardware! 6

Data Access in Time Applications dynamic Data mostly constant Storage Media/Technology dynamic 1. year 5. year 10. year 30. year 7

Archive Data is growing rapidly Business oriented and IT oriented departments facing different tasks. Business oriented view: Data amount is growing rapidly Legal and compliance requirements getting more important Privacy gets more important Data has to be archived for long time periods Budgets are limited IT-oriented view New applications generating new archiving content The object size and count grows Technologies are changing High availability gets more important Data migration gets critical Management of separated systems gets complex Cost efficiency gets more important 8

icas - Overview What does icas software provide: Compliance for storage systems (SAN/NAS/JBOD) Retention management and WORM Software defined Storage - for Archiving Certification by over 80 major ISVs Legal certification by KPMG Perfect replacement of EMC Centera, NetApp Snaplock, Dell DX, DR550/IA and optical Jukeboxes. 9

icas File System Gateway (ifsg) Virtual Drive (I:\) CIFS share or NFS Several possible archiving modes NetApp Snaplock emulation 12

icas for Long Term Archiving SECURITY FLEXIBILITY COST EFFICENCY icas provides security for your archive data. icas provides you with the highest flexibility for the future of your archive infrastructure. icas provides you various benefits for the lowest TCO. 13

SECURITY Technology Highest security standards: WORM Functionality with patented Content-Storage- Container Technology (CSC) Save data archiving via 512 bit Hash code (HMAC SHA512) Integrated compression and encryption (AES256) Based on industry standards (Webservice) US DoD- compliant data shredder High availability via cluster support 14

Security AES 256 Encryption Data is encrypted on every medium (Harddisk, Tape etc.) Daten is not readable without a valid icas- Licence and an AES256 Key. If data is stolen it is useless for the thief Is used also for icas Cloud Connector Highly secure Key-Management by icas 15

SECURITY - Archive replication with icas icas is able to archive data synchronously on two separate storage devices. ECM, DMS, ERP, Mail, Pacs Various technologies could be used at the same time e.g. SAN and NAS This functionality provides security against the replication of logical failures of single storage devices or administrational failures. E.g. the administrator deletes an archival LUN on site A the storage replication software will replicate this task to site B. icas 16

SECURITY Proven Solutions icas has broad support from a variety of software companies, such as: OpenText Symantec Saperion Docuware Easy ELO SAP MS SharePoint Point Heilig & Schubert Optimal Systems d.velop KGS Ceyoniq SER GE Healthcare 17

SECURITY Certification icas meets legal requirements: icas is a modern archiv-infrastructure and fully meets the legal requirements. certified by Dr. Ivo Geis Lawyer for IT- and Information Law KPMG has certified icas upon accordance with the legal requirements for tamper proof long term archiving. 18

SECURITY Escrow Service TÜV-SÜD in Germany Secure escrow of source-codes and license-generators for customers long-term access to the solution 19

FLEXIBILITY Virtual Appliance icas is available as a VMware Appliance directly usable in VMware ESX, Citrix, XEN, Hyper-V easy to implement in existing infrastructure 20

FLEXIBILITY Hardware Independent Because of the following facts: Use of an open SAN /NAS storage as archiving platform Investment protection through storage independence Integration within the existing storage infrastructure Scalable from GB to PB VMware support Multi-tenants Based on industry standards 21

FLEXIBILITY Scalability Multi-Path-Namespaces: The multi path option enables splitting the archive storage over multiple LUNs/archive paths A maximum of 128 different paths per tenant can be defined This enables the user to build huge archives 22

Cost Efficiency - Data migration with icas icas provides with the Multi-Path- Namespaces functionality the possibility to address more than one storage device at the same time. For data migration scenarios a new device can be mounted as write path, the old system will be only accessed for reading. icopy migration tool icopy is able to migrate data from different storage systems to a new storage system. The data will be checked for integrity and all operations will be logged. Conclusion: Data migration can be done without downtime for the applications in a live environment. 23

Cost Efficiency- Investment Protection icas provides investment protection: Usage of every SAN- /NAS-Storage as Archive-Platform Storage-Independence and integration in existing (also virtual) Infrastructure Usage of existing backup- und recovery-processes Easy data migration in a live environment Highly scalable the license can be adjusted to the future demands No additional database for Archive-Identifier 24

Cost Efficiency Backup with Optimization Backup and Restore of the Archive Usage of existing Backup-Tools und Routines (e.g. TSM ) No WORM-Tapes needed icas doesn t need a database -> fast Restore Backup-Optimization (Object reduction on factor ) 25

icas asynchronous Cloud Backup ECM, DMS, Mail certified Application-Layer read write Cluster icas Archive-Layer SAS / iscsi / FC / NAS MS Azure, FTPS, Hosting Services... Data protection : - AES 256 encryption - SHA 512 Bit Hash Onsite data Cloud Backup with icas 26

Staging Local read-cache-area icas gives the capability to define a local staging (read-cache) Advantages: Discharge of the WAN-connection to the company head quarter Partial availability of the Archive, also in case of failure of the WAN-Connection Acceleration of the read-access Read-access automatically first to the staging-area Size of the des staging are can be configured Examples of usage: Connection of branch offices to the company headquarter 28

Staging Connection of branch offices to the corporate head office Branch-office - 1 Branch-office - 2 icas Server with onsite Cache z.b. 10TB Application Server z.b. ECM, PACS icas Server with onsite Cache z.b 10TB Application Server z.b. ECM, PACS Company Headquarter Application Server z.b. ECM, PACS icas Server Central Archive 29

Cost Efficiency - Licensing Easy and transparent License-Model: One node license per server on which icas software is installed Volume-Licenses: 1TB, 5TB, 10TB, 20TB (VolumePlus) Each capacity can be build: 5TB+10TB License = 15TB Archive-License CPU-License (independent from capacity for customers with high capacities and a high growth of archive-data) No additional costs for replicating archive-data to other storage-systems - only the net-archive-data is licensed No additional costs to migrate the license to another hardware system. Examples: 1 TB = 6.000, 10 TB = icas licenses are not bounded on a particular hardware! 31

Cost Efficiency - TCO Cost factors in archiving-projects: Costs: Hardware Software Implementation Migration costs Support costs icas-view: Free choice of hardware Non-recurring purchase of the licence simple to install easy icopy migration favorable support-costs = TCO = less TCO 32
