13 Total installed PV capacity 2013 Total installations 2013: 19 MW Total installations 2012: 8.3 MW The cumulative PV capacity in Sweden 2013: 43.1 MW This capacity produces an estimated 38.8 GWh per year, which represents about 0.03% of Sweden's total electricity consumption. The strong growth in recent years due mainly to declining system prices, increasing interest in photovoltaics in Sweden and government incentive schemes. 30 Research at Umeå University Solar cells based on semiconducting composite plastics and carbon nanotubes is one of the most promising novel technology for producing inexpensive printed solar cells. Physicists at Umeå University have discovered that one can reduce the number of carbon nanotubes in the device by more than 100 times while maintaining exceptional ability to transport charges. This is achieved thanks to clever nano-engineering of the active layer inside the device.
31 Biggest solar cell facility in Sweden Solar cells are tested in Umeå. Roofs on old facilities are rebuilt and for this the construction company tests solar cells. This is a project by Umeå University, Umeå Energi and Umeå municipality that will become the biggest solar cell facility in Sweden.
