1 SENIOR LIVING The Village of Romeoville is committed to providing the best possible service to our senior citizens. brochure provides information on a variety of programs and services which may be of interest to you or your family member. These services range from health and safety to transportation and housing. For the active adult we encourage you to enjoy the many recreational and leisure activities which are available. Also, for those of you 62 and older, make sure you take advantage of our water, sewer and rubbish discounts. We hope you find this information helpful. If you have any questions regarding information in this brochure or any Village service, please contact the Village Hall at Transportation Village of Romeoville Ride Around Town (815) Romeoville's Ride Around Town is now extended to a ten mile radius of Romeoville. Residents can utilize this service for rides outside of Romeoville for various appointments, shopping or dining on Mondays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. There are three different zones that will be serviced three Mondays of the month. The last Monday of the month will be the zone that is the most popular with the ridership. Fees: Hours: Please contact the Recreation Department for fee information 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. DuPage Township Dial-a-Ride (800) DuPage Township contracts with Pace Dial-a-Ride to help with transportation needs within the Dupage Township boundaries. This service provides door-to-door transportation within the township. You must call and make an appointment at least two days before you are requesting the ride. Fees: $1.00 fee for one way Lockport Township Senior Transit System (800) LockportTownship Senior Transit System provides bus service within Lockport Township, and to area health care facilities. The bus will come to your front door to pick you up. Call to schedule a pickup time. Reservations are required, 24 hour advance notice is preferred. Fees: $2.00 fee for each ride Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. M-F This
2 Midwest Senior Living (608) Midwest Senior Living is a planned memory care facility which will be located on Grand Haven Circle, west of Weber Road. The memory care facility will be geared towards patients experiencing Alzheimer's and dementia. Grand Haven (815) Grand Haven offers single-family homes designed for ease of living. Within this private community is a 15,000 s.f. state-of-the-art recreational center that entertains residents with a pool and billiards tables, a ballroom, library, hospitality room, and catering kitchen. Romeoville Gardens (815) Romeoville Gardens is an independent senior housing rental complex with 54 single story townhomes placed in a campus setting. All potential residents must meet age and income requirements to qualify. Carillon Plainfield, IL (815) Carillon is an active adult lifestyle community for those 55 and over. There are 2097 units comprised of single family, town homes and condos and is home to approximately 3500 residents. The community enjoys Club Carillon, a 32,000 s.f. recreation center with many amenities such as: swimming pools, spas, theater, fitness classes with qualified instructors, ceramics and woodshop. Home Improvement When hiring a contractor for home improvements, seniors are encouraged to contact our Community Development Department at (815) to verify that the contractor is licensed and bonded with the Village. This will ensure that improvements are in compliance with Village Codes.
3 Joseph and Sarah Levy Center Bolingbrook, IL (630) The Joseph and Sarah Levy Senior Center serves the needs of the seniors of DuPage Township along with outlying communities. The Center provides exceptional recreation; state approved programming, vital camaraderie, hot lunches through the Senior Services of Will County's "Meals on Wheels" program, clubs and local and extended trips. Senior Services Center of Will County Joliet, IL (815) The Center's mission is to enhance the quality of life of older persons, help maintain their independence, avoid or lessen isolation and loneliness and maintain wellness. This is being accomplished through a variety of interactive programs, classes, activities and rewarding volunteer opportunities. The Community Service Council of Northern Will County (815) The Community Service Council of Northern Will County (CSC) was founded in 1973 as a social service agency serving residents of Bolingbrook, Romeoville and surrounding communities. Tax & Education Assistance Senior Tax Assistance (815) During the tax season the Recreation Department in conjunction with the Will County Senior Service Center assists seniors with the preparation of their taxes. This service is free of charge and by appointments only. Education Assistance Lewis University One University Parkway (815) Joliet Junior College North Campus 1125 West Romeo Road (815) Health Blood Pressure Checks On the last Thursday of each month, the Romeoville Fire Department attends the Golden Agers Club to offer blood pressure checks for all who attend.they are also available to answer any questions regarding fire safety and health related issues. Residents can also visit any of our fire stations anytime for a blood pressure check. Life Line Screening The Recreation Center in conjunction with Provena St.Joseph Medical Center administers 3 tests to check for possible stroke and heart problems. Contact the Recreation Department for more information on availability and cost.
4 Open Gym For the active adult 50 and over come and enjoy playing basketball, volleyball or just to walk around the gym for some exercise (this program is free to Romeoville residents). Craft Classes The Recreation Department offers several classes for those of you who enjoy hobbies such as scrapbooking and sewing. For more information regarding any of these recreational activities please contact the Recreation Department at (815) Golden Age Club The Romeoville Golden Age Club meets every Thursday at the Romeoville Recreation Center, 900 West Romeo Road from noon to 4:00 p.m. Seniors enjoy socializing over lunch, cards and bingo. Members must be 50 years young to join, and may do so by coming to any Thursday meeting. Let's Do Lunch/Diners Club Once a month the Recreation Department along with active adults in Romeoville travel to different area restaurants to enjoy lunch or dinner. So bring your friends and let the Recreation Department worry about the driving (small fee for transportation only). Popcorn and a Movie Bring your friends or make new ones as you enjoy popcorn and a movie at the Recreation Department. Bowling Olympics All men and women 50 and over are invited to participate in the Annual Senior Bowling Olympics. Lunch is provided. A small fee will cover 3 games of scratch bowling, awards and lunch. Drop In Day Every Wednesday from 11 :00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. residents and non-residents 50 and over can participate in different board games and socialize with friends. Senior Bunco The Golden Age Club sponsors Bunco once a year in May to raise funds for the Springfield trip. Cost for the Bunco is $4.00 with different prizes awarded throughout the night. Illinois Senior Olympics The Illinois Senior Olympic games are held annually in September. Local games are held throughout the state during the spring and summer. Men and women age 50 and older may compete in more then 50 events including swimming, track and field, bowling, golf, archery, and team sports. Ribbons and medals are awarded. Qualifying competitors are invited to go on to the National Competition which is held in the odd numbered year. Brunswick Zone Senior Bowling League Special reduced bowling rates during Club 55 hours, exclusive awards program, including weekly recognition awards, expert instruction and lightweight bowling balls are available. A chance to win an exciting vacation package and one year of free league bowling in the season-ending Club 55 "Vacation Classic" tournament. For more information please call ( 630) Phillip Lynch Theatre Enjoy an afternoon with friends and family at the Phillip Lynch Theatre at Lewis University. The Philip Lynch Theatre Season runs from July to April each year. Fit 4 Life Fitness Center The Recreation Center offers a 3,000 square foot fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment, locker rooms with showers and a beautiful aerial view of Village Park. You will enjoy getting in shape with our convenient hours and quality services. Discounted rates are offered to seniors 60 and up.
5 Safety The Village of Romeoville offers a variety of free crime prevention/safety programs and services which available to senior citizen residents of the community. Recreation Department Programs For more information regarding any of these programs please contact the Romeoville Recreation Department at Rules of the Road - This class is sponsored by the Secretary of State for Adults 50 and over. It is a refresher course for residents who are seeking to renew their driver's license. Senior Advisory Council - Meets the 3rd Monday of every month at 10:00 a.m.at the Recreation Center.This program is open to any senior who wants to talk about crime prevention tips for seniors. Police Department Programs For more information regarding any of these programs please contact the Romeoville Police Department at Special Needs Program - This program is for seniors who suffer from memory loss problems such as Alzheimers. A photo is taken and placed in the police data bank along with their address so the senior can be returned home. Senior Fraud Prevention Seminar - This program identifies the dangers of con games, scams and identity theft. Home Security Survey - This program makes recommendations to improve your safety. Well Being Checks - Relatives can contact the Police Department and have an officer check a seniors well being. Social Service Unit - The Police Social Worker assists seniors with personal and family problems. Citizens Police Academy- This 12 week class runs one night a week in the spring and fall.the classes instruct attendees on various law enforcement topics.the academy gives students a basic understanding of current police practices. Fire Department Programs For more information regarding any of these programs please contact the Romeoville Fire Department at Disability Key Boxes - For residents who cannot answer the door due to a disability, exterior key safes are available for purchase. These boxes are temporarily mounted on the front door for access by the first responders. This also allows them to enter without damaging the door. Applications can be obtained at Fire Station 1, 18 Montrose Drive. Smoke Detector Installation & Battery Checks - The Fire Prevention Bureau recommends placement of smoke detectors and instructions on the use of fire extinguishers. Installation and battery replacements are also conducted. File For Life - This is a free program where seniors display a magnetic card holder on their refrigerator. Inside it contains vital medical history for the first responders.this is very important if there is an emergency where the patient cannot relay this information. Seniors can obtain one of these free of charge at Fire Station 1, 18 Montrose Drive. Fire Academy -The academy is open to residents who might be interested in the operations of fire service. The two month class will enable them to view the "behind the scene" dynamics of our department.
