We studied possibilities and advantages of virtual education compared to those that traditional one offers and we raised the experience of a system combining virtual learning with attendance. The methods used in the evaluation of this experience are the survey to students, the data of the accesses, measured from the platform, the data of interaction in the learning process obtained from the platform, the visibility or popularity, and the data of quality / positioning of the server measured from two different tools. From these data, we created a series of indicators that measure learning effectiveness in virtual education platforms. These Indicators will allow to the comparison of different projects or initiatives by means of benchmarking and also to take one more step in the evolution towards new models of quality learning. KEYWORDS Benchmarking; blended learning; educational innovation; educational quality; e-learning; European higher education area; higher education; indicators; self-learning; virtual learning. 1. INTRODUCTION The Secretaryship of Innovation and Quality (2006) is the main power behind the educational innovation in the University of Granada (UGR). Its general targets should impel and manage the different initiatives of optimization and innovation in teaching being awarded, the good practices that could lead to the improvement of the educational quality. Due to all these circumstances, we asked for the creation of a group of educational innovation oriented to the information and communication technologies (ICT) in learning, with the idea to encourage interactivity, creation of communities of virtual learning, lifelong Learning and to direct our education towards the model of the EHEA. Therefore, we created the Innovation INTERAFP Group, whose first project "Interactivity, Self-learning and Lifelong Learning in virtual environment for Library and Information Science" allowed both students and teachers to gain access to learning tools that encourage environments of collaborative learning and based on the problem solving. A server was acquired and we called it NEMEA (2006). This is for hosting a virtual education platform using a free software (Moodle) for management of the educative processes with materials from different subjects implied: contents, glossaries, methodologies, self-assessments, resources, activities and study guides; together with a set of didactic tools (forum, electronic mail, chat, etc.) that manage all the processes of intuitive form, of easy handling that serves our purpose to develop creatively a virtual environment for higher education, combining education with the information dissemination. 518
