Continuing Education and Extension Description of major programs A large portion of my extension appointment is dedicated to providing administrative guidance for the Technology Transfer Program within the Center for Urban and Industrial Pest Management. Other duties include teaching and consulting with professional pest control specialists, homeowners,

5 Gary W. Bennett Page 5 and business and industrial personnel, supervising the Purdue Pest Control Technology Courses (currently we have 6 correspondence courses), and coordinating the annual Purdue Pest Management Conference. Program Impact Each year, Purdue University s Center for Urban and Industrial Pest Management sponsors the Purdue Pest Management Conference, a program that attracts close to 1,000 urban pest management specialists from around the world for a four-day meeting providing information vital to promoting innovative and environmentally sensitive approaches to pest management, and keeping professionals up to date with technical and regulatory information. The Center for Urban and Industrial Pest Management s introductory Pest Control Technology Correspondence Course has grown dramatically. Over 4,500 pest control technicians and managers, food processors and handlers, and public health, government and university personnel have received pesticide applicator training and professional development in the past three years. Over 90 percent of the participants in the courses and conferences have ranked these programs as excellent in providing the information needed to maximize their success as urban pest managers, enabling them to offer the latest technologies in IPM services to their customers. Participants have reported that Purdue s urban pest management programs are The most comprehensive and most up-to-date of all the available continuing education programs.
