1 Non- UW User Account Creation Procedure for the UW School of Social Work s (SSW) Web Application STAR Welcome to the UW School of Social Work s (SSW) online data management tool called System To Administrate Records (STAR). This account creation procedure is for people who do not have a UW NetID. If you have a UW NetID please go to the UWNetID login procedure here (or if you have any other STAR questions): education/star- system- help- and- information If you do not have a UW NetID, please take a few minutes to create an account to safely access this new web based application. Also, see the security information at the bottom to help us create and preserve a safe computing environment. Please use the current version of web browser for security and compatibility reasons (please see the end of this document for ways to upgrade.) Creating an account: ProtectNetwork is the account service the school has chosen to provide secure, fast, and cost effective way to create and manage accounts for external consumers of STAR. Please take five minutes to create an account with the follow pictures as a guide and check your SPAM folder if you do not see any s that they will send to authorize the new account: 1. Use a web browser to navigate to: You will move to the ProtectNetwork UserID registration page (see picture below). Complete the registration form filling out the highlighted areas only, such as your address of the where you received this document, desired username, and password information because it is IMPERATIVE this account is tied to at least one you have on file with the SSW: Page 1 of 5

2 2. A message will inform you that an message will be sent to the address where you receive this document. 3. Check your account for this confirmation message and either click the link in the or copy and paste the URL into your Web browser. You will be taken to a page confirming that your ProtectNetwork ID activation was successful. 4. Please log into the UW SSW STAR application at (bookmark this web address for future reference) by selecting the Protect Network button, entering your new ProtectNetwork UserID and Password on the ProtectNetwork login page which will take a few seconds to be presented. You will then move back to your STAR application page after your UserID and Password have been accepted. Page 2 of 5

3 Note: You must enter through the UW SSW STAR application in order for ProtectNetwork to know that you wish to log into the STAR system (e.g. One can t login to STAR by going to first). Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Question: I can t remember my username and/or password. Answer: Please go to the Protect Network website since UW SSW personnel do not manage this free service: (Or one can find it from the menu login page just below the Login button: Question: I can t log into STAR or I want to change my password? Answer: Make sure you are using the same username (one can t login with an address, only a username) and password that you used when creating the ProtectNetwork account. Also, make sure you are selecting the Protect Network option in the login page. Can you use that name and password to log directly into your ProtectNetwork account (this will not get you into STAR, but will test your username and password. One can also reset one s password once logged into Protect Networks account page.)? Question: How can I change the Protect Network address? Answer: 1. Select this link: 2. Select the Login Now blue button in the upper right corner. 3. Put in your ID and Password. Page 3 of 5

4 4. Hit the Edit word in the Addresses area in the middle of the page. 5. Put in the address you want to add under Add An Alternate field. 6. Hit Save. 7. You will need to check your inbox of that newly added address and select the verification link. 8. Go back into that section and that newly added address will have a Set as Primary link next to it, so select it. If you are still have problems with Protect Network creation or change issues, then please contact them: support@protectnetwork.org Website: Question: My account works fine, but I am seeing an error after logging into the Protect Network login page and coming back to the STAR website. Answer: Contact sswfield@uw.edu for UW Seattle or tdiehm@uw.edu for UW Tacoma with an that has your name, you registered with ProtectNetwork and your agency information so the respective Field Education group can ensure you are active in the STAR system and with the correct address that STAR depends on. 5 Only use your ID and password that belong to you. Never tell anyone your password. UW nor ProtectNetwork staff will NEVER ask for your password. messages that ask you to send your ID and password (such as to "verify your account") are fakes and should not be responded to. Page 5 of 5
