The University bus system, UChicaGO, provides free transportation via University evening shuttle routes that loop through campus. The Chicago Transit Authority also has daytime buses with routes around the neighborhood, all of which are free with a UChicago ID; $.5 without. Downtown Chicago is a seven-mile bus, cab, or Metra train ride away. Chicago Transit Authority The CTA is Chicago s public transportation system, offering a large network of buses, elevated trains, and subways around the city. TIP: How long is the wait for a bus? Track it on your phone or computer at uchicago.transloc.com. The most popular Hyde Park bus routes include: #: The Jackson Park Express connects Hyde Park and downtown and is a good way to get to the Art Institute, Michigan Avenue, and Millennium Park. #: The Hyde Park Express runs to and from the Loop during the morning and evening rush hours during the week. Fast, efficient, and sometimes very crowded, this bus is perfect for people who are headed to South Campus the Law School, Harris, Logan, etc. #55: The Garfield bus is popular for those going to the Red Line train at Garfield or to Midway Airport. Note: Be sure to take a bus that says Midway because buses to St. Louis do not go all the way there. #8: The Stony Island heads north to Museum Campus then west to Union Station. #9: Catch the UC Hospitals Express between Ogilvie Station, Union Station, and UChicago Medicine during the morning and evening rush hours. Fare Bus and train fare is $.5 cash, or $ with transit card. Buses cannot provide exact change for cash. You can purchase transit cards from College Admissions, CVS, Walgreens, and the Museum of Science and Industry. Train fare is $.5. TIP: Get a Ventra Card and connect it to your credit or debit card so you never have to worry about having exact change: chicago-card.com. Campus Buses The CTA also operates three Campus/Hyde Park buses that are free to anyone with a UChicago ID: the 70, 7, and 7. NightRide The University offers an evening and late-night shuttle service to provide safe, timely, and reliable transportation during late-night hours for students, faculty, and staff throughout campus and the surrounding area. NightRide operates from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Sunday through Wednesday nights, and 5 p.m. to a.m. on Thursday through Saturday nights. Pick-up locations can be found within two blocks of nearly every building on campus and each residence hall. Buses arrive every 0 0 minutes. You can track NightRide through TransLoc on mobile applications and monitors in designated buildings. Metra Electric The Metra commuter train runs on a set schedule, about every 0 minutes during rush hour and about every hour otherwise. Fares to downtown start at $, and multi-use cards can be purchased at each station. You can also pay in cash on board, but there s a surcharge. Check out the schedule at metrarail.com. Destinations: North to Museum Campus, Van Buren St., and Millennium Station, as well as south to Blue Island. Hyde Park stops: Lake Park and 47th, 5st-5rd, th, and 59th University of Chicago. Running times: Every day, a.m. to midnight. Weekend varies.

6 explorechicago.org Getting to the Airports O Hare: Hop on any bus or Metra train downtown and catch the CTA Blue Line train north to the airport from the Loop. Midway: Take the #55 marked Midway west to the airport. Or, the CTA Orange Line train runs between downtown and the southwest side of Chicago before ending at Midway. Airport Shuttle Service: GO Airport Express offers shared-ride airport shuttles, private vans, and airport limousines between Chicago O Hare and Midway Airports and UChicago. Airport Shuttle discounts are available for students. Visit airportexpress.com to learn more. Biking We re big on bikes here at UChicago. Whether it s between your classes or peddling along Chicago s nearly 9 miles of picturesque bike paths on Lake Michigan, we encourage you to use a bike just don t forget to lock up! Bike Sharing The University s Office of Sustainability manages a bike-sharing program called recycles, which allows registered students, faculty, staff, and alumni to borrow one of 5 bicycles from our five bike-share locations around campus. Register at recyclesbikeshare.com. Cabs and car services You can find cabs in front of the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine at the corner of Maryland Ave. and E. 58th St., or you can order one online or over the phone. Divvy Bicycles 55th and Woodlawn Rent a bike for the day from any of Divvy s locations and return it to the location nearest your destination; one Divvy rack is near campus.

Ellis Ave.) divinity.uchicago.edu/students/bond.shtml Much smaller than its Rockefeller Chapel counterpart, Bond Chapel serves as an intimate place of worship and as a venue for the weddings, funerals, and other special events of University of Chicago students, faculty, staff, and alumni. CHICAGO Booth SCHOOL OF BUSINESS HARPER CENTER 5807 S. Woodlawn Ave. (at E. 58th St.) Through the use of limestone, Gothic arches, and an internal quadrangle, architect Rafael Viñoly echoed campus in the design of the Charles M. Harper Center, with references to the horizontal lines of neighboring Robie House and the soaring tower of Rockefeller Chapel across the street. The winter garden serves as the quadrangle, an open, light-filled community space. Harper Reading Room Harper Memorial Library, rd Floor E. 59th St. The reading room of Harper Memorial Library, the University s first permanent library, may now be called the Arley D. Cathey Learning Center, but it s still the stately Gothic space it always was. REVA AND DAVID Logan Center for the Arts 95 E. 0th St. (at S. Drexel Ave.) logan.uchicago.edu The Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts is a catalyst for creativity at the University of Chicago. A cornerstone of south campus, the visually stunning glass and stone building designed by award-winning architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien seamlessly bridges the space between art and architecture. Joe and Rika Mansueto Library 00 E. 57th St. (at S. Ellis Ave.) mansueto.lib.uchicago.edu Dubbed the library of the future by Wired Magazine, Mansueto is a glass dome (or an igloo, depending on the season) with a study space above ground and space for.5 million volumes of books below, all retrievable by giant robotic cranes no, seriously. The dome is made of 7 rectangular glass panels, none of which are the same size. Student nickname: The egg at the Reg. TIP: It s hard to miss artist Henry Moore s -foot bronze sculpture called Nuclear Energy just outside Mansueto. It commemorates the creation of the first controlled, self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction, achieved by UChicago scientist Enrico Fermi and his team, as part of the Manhattan Project. The sculpture stands on the grounds of the University s old Stagg Field, under which the experiment took place in 94. The Midway South of campus between 59th and 0th streets The Midway Plaisance is technically a one-mile-long park stretching between Washington and Jackson Parks, but it s so much more than that. It s a Frisbee field, a Quidditch pitch, an ice rink, a sunning spot, and a grassy piece of Chicago history. DID YOU KNOW? The Midway was a central part of the World s Columbian Exposition of 89, where it was the site of the world s first Ferris wheel. Reynolds Club 570 S. University Ave. (at S. University Ave.) studentactivities.uchicago.edu The social heart of UChicago, Reynolds Club is home to the student organization offices, pool tables, prime napping nooks, and delicious food. If you re superstitious, be careful not to step on the brass University seal, or else you may not graduate in four years. TIP: RC00, in the basement of Reynolds Club, is the student organization headquarters and offers resources to make posters, banners, buttons, and more! Woodlawn Ave. (at E. 59th St.) rockefeller.uchicago.edu Named for John D. Rockefeller, our beloved founder, Rockefeller Memorial Chapel is notable for its incredibly beautiful stained glass and its 7-bell carillon the second largest in the world. Be sure to catch a tour climbing the 7 steps of the carillon tower is optional.

Today, UChicago s Division III Maroons remain on top with 9 varsity teams, and a number of club and intramural sports. PARKS Conceived as part of the South Park Plan of nationally renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted (designer of New York s Central and Prospect Parks, among many), Jackson Park is connected by the Midway Plaisance to Washington Park. Jackson Park is home to the Museum of Science and Industry and Washington Park is home to the DuSable Museum of African American History. Jackson Park This 500-acre park nestled between campus and the lake was once the grounds for the World s Colombian Exposition of 89, but today is a great place for golfing or birding (more than 50 species!). Washington Park To the west of campus lies Washington Park, which hosts numerous festivals, a wetland lagoon, and the largest -inch softball league in Chicago 4 teams play on diamonds. University Ave. (at E. 5th St.) Aging gracefully, the Henry Crown Field House offers an indoor track, punching bags, squash courts, and batting cages, as well as standard cardio and exercise equipment. Students can work out for free, memberships are cheap for faculty and staff, and visitors can purchase $5 guest passes. Gerald Ratner AthleticS Center 550 S. Ellis Ave. (at E. 55th St.) Ratner Athletics Center features an Olympic-size pool, numerous basketball courts, exercise machines with televisions, and dance rooms, as well as the University s Athletics Hall of Fame.
