1 Using JobZone Pnet What s Pnet? Good question! Pnet (or Prospects Net, to use its full name) is the system that we in Careers use to advertise jobs. It s available online 24/7 and once you ve registered you can access it as often as you like. We currently (September 2008) have 2093 employers on Pnet who have placed well over 3000 job adverts (each advert is for one or several jobs). Why should I register? Another good question! Register with Pnet to: See part-time, full-time, graduate, vacation and voluntary jobs. Create and edit saved job searches Be alerted by of new vacancies matching your saved job searches Browse our full Careers Calendar Keep your own personal online Careers Diary Receive reminders for careers-related events. How do I register? Follow the Careers mascot, Zoney, through this handy guide & he ll show you how. 1 Get online. 2 Go to (for part-time and vacation work) 1

2 or, for Graduate Jobs, go to and select JobZone for Graduates 3 Select Register 4 Fill in the online form and click submit, and then the additional details form and click submit (we recommend that you use your personal address - see create a hotmail account at the back of this leaflet) 2

Searching for Jobs From the Main Menu (above you can search for vacancies by type, for example part-time or graduate. 1 Click one of the searches, the screen grab below shows the search for part-time. You can narrow your search down by selecting as many of the categories as you d like in the search window (each search page looks slightly different). If you d like to see all the jobs in that category, then don t select any of the criteria just click on Search for Vacancies. 2 If you want to search for jobs by location or start date, for example, you might want to use the Refine Vacancy Search option. 3

4 Saving a Search You can save your searches so that when a new vacancy goes live on the system, you receive an telling you about it. 1 Back in the main menu, select Create a new search 2 A new window will open 3 Select the Vacancy Class. 4 In the new window, select the search criteria, give the search a name and remember to tick Yes to Do you wish us to send you regular updates via , of new jobs which match this search? if you want to receive an when jobs matching your search go on to the system. We ve selected part-time. 4

5 5 Once you ve made your selection, the search will appear in the Main Menu and you can edit it and view the search results whenever you re logged in. View the Employer Directory All the employers who have advertised vacancies on the system (2093 at September 2008) will have an entry in the Employer Directory. You can use the directory to find out more about a specific employer, or to get contact details if you want to send out your CV speculatively. 1. Go to the Main Menu 2. Click on Search for Employers 3. Either browse employers alphabetically or use the Advanced Search to narrow the list down a bit. View the events calendar You can view our online events calendar which lists all the events that we run here at the University, as well as those of interest nationally. You can choose to receive reminders of events, too. The events we run include: Bitesize Workshops short lunchtime workshops on things like writing a CV The Bigger Picture longer sessions on specific career topics CV Clinics bring your CV in and have it checked JobZone Talks employer led presentations, talks and workshops 5
