Plant Physiology is pleased to announce a Focus Issue on Plant Interactions with Bacterial Pathogens to be published in August The issue will be edited by Pamela Ronald and Martha Hawes. It will focus on mechanisms of recognition as well as bacterial and plant molecules mediating the interactions. Research articles reporting on all areas of plant-bacterial interactions, including from gene expression to proteomics to biochemistry, will be considered. A set of targeted update articles on important areas of research will be solicited. Fellows in the 10-week 2009 summer program will work as reporters, researchers, and production assistants in mass media organizations nationwide. TPC is the leading research journal in plant biology and is a publication of the American Society of Plant Biologists ( The editor will commission and handle submissions of front-section articles such as reviews and perspectives, work with authors on revisions to prepare manuscripts for publication; attend 4 5 scientific meetings a year; stay abreast of the current literature; communicate with scientists to identify hot topics and potential authors; and the like. The editor will also be expected to write occasional brief commentaries, press releases, and Teaching Tools in Plant Science a planned new feature that they will be responsible for developing. A Ph.D. in the plant sciences or a related field is required, and experience in teaching plant biology at the undergraduate level is desirable.
