2 VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION This course covers the basic requirements of orientation to Sandoval County Fire Department. The following items are discussed. History of the Department, SOP/SOG overview, Communications, Reporting, Bloodborne Pathogens, Harassment, Chaplain, Fire Extinguisher, Vehicle Checks, SCBA & Air Trucks, Dispatch, and assignment of online ICS course. Course Coordinator: Brian Culp HAZARDOUS MATERIALS: AWARENESS AND OPERATIONS This 40-hour course will fulfill the prerequisite classes for the core Firefighter I. This course is designed to train the student to Awareness and Operations Level, as outlined in NFPA 472, Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents and OSHA 29 CFR Upon successful completion you will receive an IFSAC Certification and 3 credit hours from CNM or a certification from Sandoval County Fire Department. Min: 12 Max: 18 PAGER TESTS The Regional Communications center conducts test on the district pager tones on the first and third Saturday of each month from 10am 12pm. All members should hear one or two activations of the pager and/or radio. Coordinator: Mike Scales EMS QA/QI and/or ROADSHOW This is a 2 hour quality improvement discussion of EMS reporting by Medical Director. May be substituted by a training topic.

4 WILDLAND REFRESHER (RT-130) A 6 hour course covering mandatory core subjects (Entrapment Avoidance, Current Issues, Fire Shelter, Other Hazard & Safety Issues) in order to maintain currency for all personnel assigned to positions with fireline duties and for any position assigned to the fireline for nonsuppression tasks. The course may include; Case studies, 10 & 18/LCES, Equipment (Fire Shelter), Historic, and Fire Behavior/Weather. Min:10 Max: 20. Use county training application to register for this course and send (fax or ) to SCFD Administration. BASIC WILDLAND (S-130/190, L-180, I-100) This course, Firefighter Training, S-130 and Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior, S-190, are required training for all personnel prior to certification as a Firefighter (FFT2) under the Wildland and Prescribed Fire Qualification System Guide, PMS An adapted version of L- 180, Human Factors on the Fireline, has been included as part of this course. The purpose of this course is to train new firefighters in basic Wildland firefighting skills. Min: 12 Max:18. 8 VEHICLE EXTRICATION This 32-hour course is designed to introduce the student to the basic concepts and skills of vehicle extrication. Min: 7 Max: 14. Students will need to fill out the State Fire Academy Course application online at Applications must be received by the NMFTA 30 days prior to course. Full structure PPE is needed. Prerequisite; PEDIATRIC ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT REFRESHER (PALS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is a classroom, video-based, Instructor-led course that uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. Min: 4 Max: 6. Use SCFD training application to register for this course and send (fax or ) to SCFD Administration. Course Coordinator: Gregg Kotila SWIFTWATER AWARENESS & OPERATIONS (2 courses) Students gain classroom and hands-on experience in pre-planning and organization, personal safety equipment, swiftwater dynamics and hydrology, medical considerations in water rescues, self-rescue techniques, and shore-based rescues and the role of watercraft in swiftwater rescue. This course teaches all the knowledge and skills required for jurisdictions to perform swiftwater rescues at the Operations level. Must be to attended. Min: 6 Max: 15. LEADERSHIP DAY - TACTICAL LEADERSHIP COURSE ( 2 courses in the month) The S.L.I.C.E.R method is a Fire Attack Mode tactic used to reduce temperatures inside a building prior to entry by firefighting personnel for extinguishment or rescue. 10 ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT REFRESHER (ACLS) In this classroom-based course, providers enhance their skills in treating adult victims of cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies, while earning their American Heart Association ACLS (AHA ACLS) for Healthcare Providers Course Completion Card. Min: 4 Max: 6. Use SCFD training application to register for this course and send (fax or ) to SCFD Administration. Course Coordinator: Gregg Kotila ROPE RESCUE AWARENESS AND OPERATIONS (THIS COURSE IS 2 WEEKENDS) This 40-hour course meets the first two of the three levels of training described in Chapter 5 of NFPA 1670 Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents; a mixture of classroom instruction and practical skills experiences look at basic rope use concepts, incident organization, and rigging of equipment used to affect a rescue. Leather boots and leather gloves, to be supplied by the student, are required. Helmets and harnesses will be supplied by the New Mexico Firefighters Training Academy. Students may use their own harnesses and personal protective equipment if it passes NFPA & NMFTA standards. Min: 10; Max: 18. Students will need to fill out the State Fire Academy Course application online at Applications must be received by the NMFTA 30 days prior to course. Leather boots and leather gloves, to be supplied by the student, are required. Helmets and harnesses will be supplied by the New Mexico Firefighters Training Academy. Students may use their own harnesses and personal protective equipment if it passes NFPA and NMFTA standards. Min: 10; Max: 18. Prerequisites: Rope Rescue: Awareness and Operations. Students will need to fill out the State Fire Academy Course application online at Applications must be received by the NMFTA 30 days prior to course. 14 HOSE AND HYDRANT TESTING This 16-hour course is designed to deal with theory and practical skills necessary for hose and hydrant testing according to NFPA standards. Class will include documentation methods of testing and proper calculation of flows. Protective clothing complying with NFPA Standards and long pants and longsleeved shirt is required. Min: 10; Max: 24. Students will need to fill out the State Fire Academy Course application online at Applications must be received by the NMFTA 30 days prior to course. 16 EMERGENCY VEHICLE DRIVER TRAINING (EVDT) This 16 hour program was developed to teach the emergency vehicle operator proper driving technique, the mental as well as the physical aspects of the driving task. The program points out the longterm impact of an accident involving an emergency vehicle on the operator, the emergency service organization and the community in which they serve. This course meets the need of the New Mexico Association of Counties requirement for defensive driving. Min: 10 Max: 15. Use SCFD training application to register for this course and send (fax or ) to SCFD Administration. FIREFIGHTER I This 130 hour course is designed to train the student to basic level structural firefighter as outlined in NFPA 1001, Professional Qualifications Standard. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive IFSAC Certification and 5 credit hours from CNM or a certification from Sandoval County Fire Department. Full protective clothing is required BEFORE CLASS BEGINS. PPE must comply with NFPA Standards. Prerequisites: Professional level CPR and First Aid, (EMS First Responder and above meet this requirement) and IFSAC Hazardous Materials: Awareness and Operations. Min; 12 Max; 18.
