1 English Learners with Disabilities or Suspected of Having Disabilities Joni Magee ESE ELL/Special Education Coordinator MELLC Meeting - March 6, 2015 English Language Learner & Special Education Coordinator The ELL/Special Education Coordinator provides leadership within ESE in the development and implementation of statewide initiatives, programs, and policies to improve the English language development and academic achievement of English language learners with disabilities or suspected of having disabilities. 2 and Secondary Education 1

2 Responsibilities Serve as a liaison ESE Office of English Language Acquistion and Academic Achievement (OELAAA) ESE Special Education Planning and Policy (SEPP) ESE Massachusetts Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Local education agencies Stakeholders Institutions of Higher Education Professional associations 3 Office of English Language Acquisition and Academic Achievement Create a needs assessment survey with EL and special education fields to inform initiatives Develop ELL/special education advisory and guidance documents Provide technical assistance on related matters Promote continuum of services and programming for students who are English learners with disabilities Facilitate professional development to support delivery of services connected to ongoing initiatives 4 and Secondary Education 2
