1 Wilmington Montessori School Responsible Computer Use Policy - 5th and 6th graders Wilmington Montessori School utilizes instructional technology throughout the daily classroom experience to expose and empower our 21" century learners to master the use of technology as a tool for learning and self-expression. Educational Technology Mission: As a 21st century learning environment, Wilmington Montessori School recognizes that children live in a digital age and must acquire technological literacy. This process begins with the introduction of concrete, sensory and interactive work. Used intentionally and appropriately, technology and interactive media effectively support learning and development and have the capability to expand children s access to new content and skills. Our focus is enhancing the experiential learning, problem solving and communication skills that are such an integral part of the Montessori curriculum, offering yet another tool and method of discovery. Wilmington Montessori School is committed to integrating technological literacy in its curriculum at every age level. General Provisions: The Wilmington Montessori School provides all students with opportunities to use and experience learning technologies throughout their classroom environment. These technologies are a privilege and are used with the express permission of the teachers. Students and parents are required to read the following technology behavior guidelines and sign the agreement form to permit use of the described learning technologies. While on school grounds, students will have access to ipad Airs, Dell laptops, Dell desktops, learning software approved and installed by the school, school assigned , cloud storage such as Google Drive, and wireless internet access. All of these learning technologies will be used expressly for learning purposes as described in the WMS technology mission. Accompanied with these opportunities are responsibilities that each student must follow to ensure the safety and security of all members of the Wilmington Montessori School community. The purpose of this Responsible Use Policy is to provide students and their families with a clear understanding of appropriate use and behavior concerning all technologies at Wilmington Montessori School. Definitions: File sharing is the public or private sharing of computer data or space. Any program that creates a point-to-point connection between two or more computing devices for the purpose of sharing data is considered file sharing.

2 Cloud storage describes any web-based file storage application. Students will have Google Drive access on laptops, ipads and from any home device. In this way, students will always have access to their files through any web-enabled device. Airdrop is an ipad feature that allows an ipad to communicate directly with another accessible Apple device. It can be used to share a file with a teacher or classmate. Respect: I will always treat others with respect and courtesy. This includes communications sent through and on websites. I will not purposely act in a manner that is harmful to another person through face-to face or online communications. I will treat all devices with respect and act in a manner that is not harmful to the device. IPads: Basic Care and Practices I will treat ipads with care and respect, and I will keep my ipad in good condition. I will charge my ipad at home before arriving at school. I will keep my ipad in its protective case at all times. I will not let food or drink near my ipad. I will not bring my ipad with me to meals. Lost/Stolen I will not borrow or use anyone else's ipad without the owner s permission. I will not leave my ipad unattended. I will keep my ipad with me, in my locker or locked in my classroom if I cannot take it with me. If at any time my ipad is missing, I will alert my teacher or the Instructional Technology Coach so she can help me locate it. Apps/Software I understand that my ipad is to be used as a learning tool; therefore, I will only install apps that offer a meaningful learning experience or apply to what I am learning in class. I will not alter the ios on my ipad or install an alternate operating system. Any software/app installed on my ipad will be legally downloaded or purchased through the Apple App Store. I will not install file-sharing software of any kind, such as Limewire, Bearshare, Kazaa or utorrent on my ipad. I understand that the school can remove any software that has been installed on my ipad that distracts or impedes my learning. In class responsibilities and expectations

3 I will keep my audio off unless my teachers give me permission to turn it up. I will not listen to music or watch movies during the school day unless given permission by a teacher. I will not take pictures or record video or audio without permission from a teacher. I will not share music, pictures or files over the network without permission from a teacher. I understand that sharing of music and photos (including itunes music sharing and Airdrop) over the school network is strictly prohibited and is subject to a disciplinary response. Files and Copyright I am responsible for backing up my files to the cloud or my , I understand that my ipad may be reset to factory settings if there is a technical problem, and that this will erase all of the files stored on my ipad. I will not illegally obtain copyrighted materials such as music or movies (by downloading from the internet or ripping from a DVD/CD), I will not store personal, non-school-related materials on my ipad such as personal pictures, movies, games or music. I understand that the school's priority is my safety, wellbeing and learning. Therefore I acknowledge that the school has the right to check and modify the content of my ipad at any time to ensure its use for learning. If WMS finds files or software that violates this agreement, I understand and agree that they can perform a factory reset to clear off any and all materials and contact my parents discuss this issue. I understand that if I continue to break the responsibilities of this agreement, WMS can set strict restrictions on my ipad and alert my parents of my actions. I will only access my school from my ipad or through the web portal. I will only use my school for learning and school purposes; this includes s and attachments sent to other school s (my friends). I will not send chain letters, personal messages and personal attachments such as pictures, music or animated gifs from my school . I will not share my school address with ANY websites, companies or other third parties without the explicit permission of a teacher. I will not use or log into anyone else s . I will not use during class unless given permission by a teacher. I will follow appropriate netiquette when ing others. I understand that this means I will not use derogatory, obscene, harassing or abusive language. I understand that the school can search and read my s if I use my inappropriately.

4 Laptops: I understand that the WMS laptops are for learning purposes and not for personal business or entertainment. I understand that WMS monitors laptop activity including websites visited, applications used and sent. I will not participate in chat rooms or instant messaging services unless permission is given as part of a learning activity. I will not install software onto the school laptop. I understand that it is my responsibility to store files created on the school laptops to my , Google Drive or OneDrive. Internet Use and Copyright: Access to the internet provides students with an unlimited source of information to enhance selflearning. However, it does also make inappropriate information available to all users. To ensure the web safety of each student, WMS has taken steps to ensure that our school network blocks harmful and inappropriate materials. WMS has also set ipad restrictions that also act as protection from these materials for each student. We have done as much as we can to help ensure safe internet access for each student, but it is up to each student to act responsibly and intelligently when using the internet. As such: I will not use a proxy to access websites blocked by SonicWall. I agree to always give credit to any information or materials taken from the internet that I use in my school work. I understand that it is my responsibility to notify my teacher or the Instructional Technology Coach if I access any website that is inappropriate for school. I will not violate copyrighted materials by making a duplicate onto my device. Privacy, Use and Safety I will not give out any personal information about myself or others (friends, family or my teachers), this includes name, phone number, address and passwords, through or on websites. - I will not provide personal information to websites to create an account unless given permission by my teacher. I am responsible for my own passwords for logging into and any websites. I will not disclose my passwords to anyone else besides my parents. Consequences: I understand that it is my responsibility to help keep our classroom learning environment safe for all of my classmates. Therefore I agree to notify my teacher or the Instructional Technology Coach if I am aware of any violations done by others or to others.

5 I understand that if I break the responsibilites included in this agreement that my parents will be notified and steps will be taken to correct my inappropriate actions. This may include loss of technology privileges. Wilmington Montessori School has taken every precaution to create a safe and secure learning community, WMS takes no responsibility for actions performed on school devices that act against this agreement. ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY FOR EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY Wilmington Montessori School, Wilmington, Delaware All members of the Wilmington Montessori School community are responsible to adhere to all provisions and conditions set forth in this Acceptable Use Policy. Any violations of this policy will result in disciplinary action, the loss of ipad privileges, and possible legal action, Students are to report any known violations of this Acceptable Use Policy to appropriate administrative staff.
