7 INTRODUCTION By Lucy Wright Chairman, EI s Health Technical Committee The Energy Institute s (formerly the Institute of Petroleum) Occupational, Environmental Medical Subcommittee commissioned a workshop in 2002 to explore Health as a Business Management Issue in the 21 st Century. The aim of the workshop was to bring together a range of different views on occupational health provision within industry, and how this should develop in years to come. The various speakers were from the UK, USA and mainland Europe, and represented academia, industry and regulatory bodies. This document is a record of the presentations given, and also the discussion which followed. The Committee hopes you find it an interesting and informative read. vii
