2 MULTI-DISCIPLINARY COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE Putting it All Together This brochure provides additional and updated information on the forthcoming Leadership Institute Series scheduled to begin Feb. 5, 2013, in Davis. THE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE SERIES is based on a collaborative leadership model focused on improving the lives of children and families in the child welfare system. The series is built on understanding the data related to child welfare outcomes, identifying and implementing programs and services rooted in effectiveness, and monitoring and providing strategies for continuous quality improvement processes. Integrated throughout the series are principles of leadership, organizational effectiveness and program improvement. Who should attend County teams of leadership partners who serve child welfare families, including: county directors, division directors, deputy directors, program managers and supervisors Child welfare workers, mental and behavioral health professionals, education workers, legal representatives, tribal representatives, CalWorks professionals, FFAs and community partners Foundational Pillars of the Institute Each session will address issues in child welfare from the framework provided by the Five Pillars and informed by implementation science: Leadership Data/outcomes Interventions Resources Continuous quality improvement

3 Topics/Learning Objectives 1. How to create and support an agency focused on continuous quality improvement, and develop a learning and leadership culture to support improved outcomes 2. A framework for understanding the relationship between the services delivered and the critical outcomes 3. Implementation of practices related to Katie A. (children s mental health), AB 12 (fostering connections for foster youth over 18), safety-organized practice and others 4. Use of longitudinal data to understand foundation outcomes in child welfare 5. Basic approaches for evaluating contract agency performance 6. The cycle of improvement: setting baselines and evaluating performance over time 7. A focus on areas that will be identified by the group, for example: a. Developing a link between program outcomes and cost b. Targeting entry into care, length of time in care, reunification, adoptions and aftercare c. Using court data 8. 5 Professional credit information CEU: Participants who complete each two-day session are eligible to receive 1.2 continuing education units (CEUs) from the University of California, Davis. One CEU is awarded for each 10 hours of class time. BBS: Participants who complete each two-day session are eligible to receive 12 hours of BBS credit. UC Davis Extension courses meet the qualifications for continuing education credit for MFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. One hour of BBS credit is awarded for each hour of class time. Provider number PCE-577. BRN: Participants who complete each two-day session are eligible to receive 12 hours of BRN credit. UC Davis Extension courses meet the qualifications for continuing education credit as required by the California Board of Registered Nursing. One hour of BRN credit is awarded for each hour of class time. Provider number BRN CAADAC: UC Davis Extension has been approved by the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors. 12 hours of CAADAC credit is awarded for completion of each two-day session. Provider number MCLE: Participants who complete each two-day session are eligible to receive 12 hours of MCLE (Minimum Continuing Legal Education) credit. UC Davis Extension courses meet the qualifications for continuing education credit as required by the California Bar Association. One hour of MCLE credit is awarded for each hour of class time. Provider number About the Northern California Training Academy As part of the Center for Human Services at UC Davis Extension, the Northern California Training Academy (NCTA) provides training, research, evaluation and consultation to 28 Northern California counties. The counties include rural and urban counties with various training challenges for child welfare staff. The Academy recognizes the priority need for integrated training across disciplines in the region, and we are committed to delivering high-level training and other professional services to meet counties needs.
