A quick peek through the studio s glass door often reveals a group of eager engineers experimenting with their awesome new desk, as referred to by an SAE student. With individual studio time, students get to enjoy the ASP8024 for recording and mixing bands and other audio projects, in combination with an Avid Pro-Tools system and a variety of outboard equipment and plug-ins, explains Gibb. Before being granted access to individual studios, audio engineering students are given tutoring sessions hosted by the SAE Institute lecturing team, boosting their confidence in signal flow and introducing them to how the console works. 3 We needed a console that will be able to withstand almost constant use all year round, along with being stable and built with quality components that will last. As audio engineers we also want something that sounds fantastic and was easy for students to use and get their heads around. says SAE Melbourne s Studio Technician, Brad Toan. It provides the flexibility to work the way you like to work. I also love using the DLC; it becomes very helpful in those large sessions when you need to do some automation quickly on a vocal track. The EQ sounds great, too! You can really dial-in on problematic frequencies with its tight Q values. The preamps are transparent and clean, giving you a great sounding signal when it hits your DAW. 4 SAE BUCHAREST Andrew Ward, Head of Audio states, The pre-amps are very desirable with rich sound and low noise. I recorded drums, acoustic and electric guitars and vocals, all of which sounded excellent with a character that I now call The Audient Love. 5 SAE NEW YORK John Jansen, Director of Education in the New York facility has been getting a feel for their newest arrival. The patchbay created a learning curve for the students at first, he reveals. Once it was understood, people love it. Students at the SAE Institute in New York are now studying audio technology on a 24-channel ASP8024. Complete with patchbay and integrated Dual Layer Control module, the analogue desk from Audient provides intuitive control of the DAW session as well as a clear overview of signal flow. 7 SAE MILAN We needed a large format console which was easy to teach with and understand, explains Emiliano Alborghetti, Head of Audio at SAE Milan, when asked about the choice of Audient ASP8024 desk installed in one of their two brand new studios. We didn t want to compromise on quality, he adds. Sound quality and functionality are top priority and help give students all the right skills to manage this type of desk. The new console settled into studio 5, one of a total of 17 studios being set up by the audio and film departments this summer. Alborghetti says, Both Studios 5 & 6 are used for practical lessons in recording and mixing techniques. Students are required to fulfil a one song studio production, from recording to mixdown, the result of which represents one of the main assignments of the last module of the Audio Engineering Diploma course. 10 Opting for the ASP4816 in Liverpool, SAE Lecturer & Audio Program Coordinator James McCormick explains why the compact console works so well in their P1 studio.
