Telstra 4G leading the way Experience Australia s largest 4G coverage - our 4x4 mobile network Telstra was the first in Australia to activate 4G LTE technology back in September Today, Telstra provides more than 4 times the 4G coverage area of other networks reaching an unmatched 85% of the Australian population. Telstra 4G customers are able to enjoy typical download speeds of 2 to 50Mbps and typical upload speeds of 1 to 10Mbps^. 4G not only provides faster speeds, it also provides greater capacity so you can enjoy a more reliable and richer network experience. So what makes Telstra 4G different? With Telstra you enjoy 4G speeds across 4 times the coverage area of any other network in Australia Even outside our 4G coverage areas you automatically switch to our fastest available 3G speeds. ^ 4G customers automatically switch to our fastest available 3G speeds in other coverage areas around Australia. NOTE: Speeds may vary due to factors such as location, distance from the base station, local conditions, concurrent users, hardware and software configuration and download source/upload configuration. Go to telstra.com/coverage to check current coverage and speed available in your area APCO Anthony Goonan April 14 Page 4

Ongoing investment into the network Substantial financial commitment FY13/14 Every year, Telstra invests hundreds of millions of dollars to make sure Telstra and our customers remain at the forefront of mobile connectivity. over $4 Billion invested into the mobile network to date Telstra has invested over $4 Billion into the mobile network to date. In FY13/14 we will: Continue to expand our coverage by adding more than 100 new coverage sites to the network. Further expand our 4G coverage beyond our current 85% Australian population reach. Preparing the network for new world leading technologies such as 4G-LTE- Advanced and channel aggregation. Continue to invest in the backhaul to ensure our customers continue to enjoy a superior network experience in more places. ^ Total CAPEX for Fixed access, IT, network core, products, transmission and wireless access APCO Anthony Goonan April 14 Page 5

4G LTE has been the fastest growing ecosystem to date With more than 38 different 4G devices as at December 2013 LTE USB/WiFi devices are firmware upgradable for 4G- LTE in the 900MHz band First 4G cat 4 device Wi-Fi Dongle 4G-900MHz smart-phones more to come..., NOKIA LUMIA 920 SONY XPERIA Z SEP 2011 DEC 2013 For a full range of mobiles and high-speed devices visit For coverage and speed maps visit: All trademarks and logos are the property of their respective owners APCO Anthony Goonan April 14 Page 6

Australia s multi award recognised mobile network Mobile Service Provider of the Year Frost & Sullivan Excellence Awards th November 2012 Best Mobile Operator World Communication Awards th November 2012 For the second year running Australians rated Telstra as Highest in Wireless Network Quality Performance J.D. Power Study Autumn 2013 Telstra received the highest numerical score among wireless network providers in the proprietary J.D. Power Asia Pacific Australian Wireless Network Quality Performance Studies SM study based on 2,003 total responses measuring four providers and measures opinions of wireless users about the quality of their service. 10 Keeping the community safe The LANES strategy is a unified national approach. It s designed to better support our emergency services organisations as they protect communities now and in the future. Public Capability PPDR Capability Public Capability PPDR Capability Public Capability PPDR Capability Every Day ESOs have sole and exclusive use of their own spectrum, ensuring critical communications are provided to remove, rural and urban centres more equitably. Major Incident During a major event, PPDR capability is immediately augmented using commercial capability by providing priority access and preferential data treatment for mission critical communications in Telstra s LTE coverage areas. Disaster In the event of a disaster critical communications are further augmented with additional PPDR capability that is available to all ESOs. APCO Anthony Goonan April 14 Page 10

Augmenting partitioned spectrum with commercial capacity LANES LTE Advanced Network for Emergency Services PSA PARTITIONED e.g. 800MHz PPDR (or use of 900MHz ahead of PPDR spectrum allocation) PUBLIC LTE e.g. 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz today 700MHz, 2500MHz from 2015 PSA-only partitioned spectrum expanded by augmenting with preferential data on the public LTE spectrum in LTE coverage areas Potential spectrum in the 800MHz and 4.9 GHz bands for Public Safety Agencies (PSAs) Utilise Telstra spectrum resources to enhance PSA operations in an integrated network scenario (LANES) in times of need APCO Anthony Goonan April 14 Page 11

The capability we have developed and demonstrated to key industry segments The network provides 4 key capabilities 1 2 A dedicated and partitioned spectrum lane of capacity for PPDR use, providing exclusive access and mobile broadband data Prioritised network access of PPDR services on our commercial 4G LTE technology in LTE enabled areas (85% population) Preferential Data Partitioned Spectrum 3 Capacity expanded by allocating preferential data treatment on our commercial 4G LTE technology in LTE enabled areas 4 Seamless operation between the partitioned spectrum allocation to the public network where LTE is enabled. Public User PSA User APCO Anthony Goonan April 14 Page 12

3GPP standards engagement for public safety Telstra strongly support a 3GPP roadmap Cooperation has been established between 3GPP and other groups to ensure broad representation of the public safety community. Active industry engagement with the LTE standards community in 3GPP to create the system improvements needed to meet public safety requirements. 3GPP s objective is to preserve the considerable strengths of LTE while also adding features needed for public safety APCO Anthony Goonan April 14 Page 13

We are driving the ecosystem development for all to benefit Telstra have been active in the industry to develop a regional harmonised capability APT (Asia Pacific Telecommunity) forum work with PPDR band harmonisation APT forum work with LANES adoption (and subsequent interest in other regions) IMT (International Mobile Telecommunications) forum for introduction of LANES Integrated Video/PTT & dispatch We have developed the LANES concept and are working with Ericsson to commercialise it Working with device partners on ruggedized, fit for purpose devices APCO Anthony Goonan April 14 Page 14

Mission critical mobile broadband capability today APCO Anthony Goonan April 14 Page 15

We have demonstrated LANES in the live Telstra network In late November/early December 2013, Telstra piloted LANES in the live network. We showcased this capability to Government and Industry representatives in Brisbane and Perth through a series of live demonstrations Following the Showcase, LANES was successfully deployed at the Woodford Folk Festival by the Queensland Police Service.
