A Analysis (Step # 7 ) must be designed for each specific CHAINSAW and each specific work area and task. A JHA is a never ending document. There will always be a better way to get the job done. 2 SPECIFIC SITE RULES AND PROCEDURES / PPE REQUIRED FOR THIS TASK Clarify work conditions, nature of task, and hazards Get a copy of any OHS policies and requirements, as well as manufacturer s instructions / operator s manual, or instructions developed by a competent person May not do job properly May fail to identify hazards including ground conditions May contravene OHS policies and place people or company at risk May not use equipment correctly Check job requirements with supervisor Do a JHA or TAKE 5 for each task, or complete final section on this JHA Ensure ground conditions are suitable Have necessary permits if required Take care and think about the task at hand Complete a site induction or check policies with supervisor and obtain a copy if not certain Get a copy of the operator s manual for the chainsaw, or instructions developed by a competent person Ensure operators have had adequate training in the use of the particular chainsaw, and have necessary inductions and qualifications if required 3. Operate the equipment to do the job Kickback Cut by chainsaw Accidental contact with personnel Damaged product Damaged equipment Incorrect response to hazardous or emergency situations Operate by licenced and trained personnel who have been inducted on the chainsaw that is being used Set up on a stable surface and be aware of steep slopes and drop-offs Ensure unauthorised personnel are clear of the work area Operate cautiously in line with operator s manual and site procedures Always hold the chainsaw with both hands Don t place your head or body in line with the saw keep slightly to the left Don t cut with top quadrant of guide bar Wear all necessary PPE Complete and follow the Analysis / JHA / TAKE 5 for the job Follow manufacturer s and site procedures 7 (MEDIUM) 6. 4 7. List any specific hazards and control measures that apply to the specific task, using the specific Chainsaw, in the specific environment or area where you are going to be conducting this task. Otherwise, complete a separate Analysis such as a JHA or TAKE 5 for each particular task with each particular Chainsaw that you will be operating.
