4 _ I Patented July 28, 1925., 1,547,635.. r. 1 emw?sa T a-azzwihom it magi/,cconcemc. dhpélicatitn 25,;I9 2.,-;>Senial i; 3 i I. I. 54BGIQkDOWDrtlIEIt-L1,,ANIFLLA Rrronns; a.-_cit;i. zen of the United States, residing at Lexi ing-ton, in» the county.ofafayette. and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful "Improvements- in Extension Tables, of which the following is a speci?cation. This invention relates to improvements in extension tables, the general object of the invention being to provide means for easily and quickly varyingv the diameter of a circu lar table. Another object of the invention is to form the table top from a number of slidable members of quadrant shape and a pair of leaf members which are adapted to be placed between the quadrants when the table is to be enlarged.. This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illus trated in the accompanying drawings and speci?cally pointed out in the appended clalms. In describing my invention in detail, ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein vlike characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which : Figure 1 is a plan view of the table in collapsed position.. - Figure 2 is a similar view of the table in extended position. 7, Figure 3 is a side view of the table as shown in Figure 2. Figure 4 is a plan view of the table with the top removed. Figure 5 is a sectional view on line 5-5 of Figure 2. - Figure 6- is a detail perspective view of the extension members in juxta-position. Figure 7 is a detail of the guideways. In these views 1 indicates the pedestal of the table which is supported by the legs 2 which are provided with the casters 3. A sub~top 4 is connected with the top of the pedestal by the supporting brackets 5. This top is of square shape and has connected with its upper surface the radiating bars 6, the ends of these bars projecting beyond the corners of the top. Eachbar is pro vided with a dove-tail groove? in its up per face which is engaged by a similar shaped tongue 8 formed on the lower face of a slidable bar 9 so that the bars 8 can i I i v i betlslidjlongitudinallyion the quadrant. 10-; secured. to, each} oflthecbars. 6 and thesefparts are, soarrangedthért when; the; bars. v9 "aresmoved inwardly theiedges. of. the, quadrants _ willgengage each: as. toliforlm. a, tabletop. of vthe shape. ;shown(,1n Figure 1. Each"quadrantliasa?grooveIO formed in one of its straight edges and a tongue 11 on its other straight edge, the tongue of one quadrant engaging the groove of the adjacent quadrant when the table is inv contracted position. In order to?ll up the spaces between the quadrants when they are moved outwardly to makev the table of larger diameter I provide a pair of leaves 12. These leaves are each provided with a groove on one side edge and a tongue on the opposite side edge for engaging the tongues and grooves of the quadrants. The ends of the leaves are rounded to form with the quadrants acomplete circle when the table is in extended position. of the leaves intersect and are rabbeted, as at 13, so that the faces of the leaves will be?ush with each other and with the upper faces of the quadrants. Each leaf and each The centers _ quadrant is provided with a depending apron 14: on its lower face, the ends of these aprons abutting when the table is in con tracted or extended condition. These aprons act to hide the sub-top and the bars and thus I add to the attractive appearance of the table. It will thus be seen that the table can be easilypand quickly enlarged by pulling the quadrants apart and placing the two leaves in position and then closing the quadrants until their tongue and grooved edges ellgage the tongue and grooved edges of the leaves. In this position of the table its top will form a complete circle. smaller table.is desired it is simply neces~ sary to remove two leaves and move the quadrants inwardly until the edges engage. When a. This will make the top a distorted circle. It is thought from the. foregoing descrip tion that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent. I desire it to be understood that I may make- changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall with in the scope of the appended claims. What I claim is :, p > 1. A table of the class described compris ing a pedestal, a rectangular sub-top secured
5 1,547,685 theretoybrackets secured to the pedestal and supporting the sub-top, radial guide bars secured to the sub-top and extending over and beyond the corners _thereof,~slidable bars having tongue and groove connections with the guide bars, a quadrant-shaped top, part connected with each slida-ble bar, said quadrants having tongue and groove con-" nections with each other, a pair of remov able leaves for occupying the space between the quadrants, the centers of said leaves in tersecting eachl other and said centers being rabbeted, and aprons secured beneath the quadrant-shaped top and removable leaves. {2. A table of the character set forth com prising rightangularly disposed! bars ex tending outwardly from" the center of the table, arectangular sub-top having its sides obliquelydisposedbetween the bars and its corners lying on planes in vertical align ment with lines passing through the centers of the bars, means securing the bars to the sub-top, quadrant-shaped leaves slidably en gaged with the bars, and intermediate leaves between the quadrant-shaped leaves, said ljeaves lying on planes midway between the ars.v 1 " I In testimony whereof I a?ix my signature.
