LenwascoXmanageroftheoriginalSundeckHotel whichburntdownin1960.intypicalfashionlen becameoneofthebestknown pirate instructors inthebusiness.onecouldneverseelentaking secondplacetotheimportedaustriansas bendze kneesx$10dollarplease becametheinstruction credo.lenhadmanyprivateclients. SomehowLenmanagedtorunanelectronics businessinnorthsydneywhenhewasn tskiing,or purchasinghisnewcrosscountryskibootsforthe nextseason!lenwasalsointorifleshooting, participatingathighlevelinqueen sprizes.len wasalsoquitedeaf!! InlateryearsLenwasrightintocrosscountryracing andmanagedtoparticipateformanyyears overseasandinaustralia,latelyduetokevin Heffernanchaperoninghim!!ForaslongasIcan rememberlenstayedtwoweeksoverraceweek withheffoandpreviouslyandymcculloch.hislast winteratcoomahutwasin2013,itwaswithsome difficultybuthewasthere.lenwasoneofthose thathavegivenaustralianskiingahistory.istill rememberlen sadvicewheniwasveryyoung on sunnydaysgocrosscountryskiingandonsnowy daysgoalpineskiing thatwaytherearenobad daysskiing hehaditright. TwentyfouryearsagoGlenyswasluredfromthe protectionofthevalleybelowtotheheightsofthe unknownterritory,coomaskiclublodge:alamb totheslaughter!!thiswasdonebynoneother thantheesteemedlifemember,denis Vanzella.Interestingly,GlenysstillcountsDenis amongstherclosestfriends!)glenyswasoffered themanagersjobandthoughtx"ohyesxicando thatxorganizingafewbookings,abitofcleaning andsortingxeasy"! Glenystookoverthejobwithnoconceptofhow manyrolesshewouldberequiredtofillxrolesshe couldneverhaveenvisaged.intimeshehadtobe shopkeeper,housekeeper,schoolteacher,miracle worker,counsellor,troubleshooter,lawadvocate, nanny,nurse...tomentionjustafewxallhandled withgreatskillandhumour. ToquoteafewexamplesXwhocanforgetthe pandemoniumeacheveningat6pmwhenthat magicalfourletterword"shop"wascalledxa similareffecttothepiedpiperblowinghistrumpet togatherupeverychildinthevillage.thisinturn wouldinvolveherschoolteacherskillsre explanationsastohowmanygiantpythonscould beboughtwithatwodollarcoin.variouschildren, AngelaSmith,FelixSalmon,RobbieandRandall Martintonamejustafew)fondlystayinGlenys s memoryascustomerswhocouldn'tbebudgedfrom theshopuntiltheverylastdissectionoftheir expenditurewasrepeatedlyexplainedtothem. Miracleworkerskillswereneededas in"impossibilitiesdonealmostimmediately, miraclestomorrow".someoftherequestsfielded were"glenys,ihavesixnonmemberfriendswho wanttworoomsfortheschoolholidaysnext week.itoldthemyouwouldfixitxisthatokay?" Oneverymemorabletroubleshootingincident comestomindwhenoneeveningmemberswere treatedtothespectacleofglenyswrestingavery largeandverysharpkitchenknifefromthe "careless"handsofrossmartin.rossbelievedhe mayneedthissurgicalinstrumentduringthenight ashisdaughterwassleepinginthebasementand Rossstatedthathemayhaveto removethe"familyjewels"ofanymembers directinganyhankypankytowardsbrook. Otherincidentswhichweallrecallincludethe eveningklauswas"arrested"forridingtheguthega txbarillegallyandmanaging,ofcourse,tooffload theaccompanyingpassenger.)glenyswas confrontedwiththisonwalkingintothelodgeafter aharddayatthepostofficeandjumpedinto explaintothehierarchythatklauswasreallyavery niceguyandverylawabidingandallthewhile exhortingthemembersinthebackgroundnotto voicetheirdisagreementsoloudly. GlenysandJohntrulythoughtofthemembersas "family"andthuswouldcoverfortheirmanyand frequentindiscretionsxanonymouslyreturning clocks,liquorandstufftolodgesandhotelsfrom whichtheyhadbeen"borrowed". Theabovestoriesandmanymanymorewhichare unprintable)illustrateveryclearlytheincredible toleranceofglenysandjohnandtheiramazing abilitytolivewiththemembers idiosyncrasiesand foibles.itwasunknownforthemtobefazedbyany antics.theyhadamagnificentsenseoffunand alwayswereveryamusedbythe strangehappeningsinthelodge.theywere wonderfullykindandunderstandingtoallthekids andinturn,thekidslovedthembothvery much.thememberswillalwaysbeverygratefulfor theirtwentyfouryearsofcareandwewishthem verywell. IworkedinEuropeasaskitechonthespeedskiing circuit,thefastestsomeonewentonapairofskisi tunedwas243km/hr!!! Boltinhisyoungerdays1991),workingasaskiinstructorin Austria! Valentines Day Working Bee 2015 Got nothing to do this Valentines Day? Show your loved ones how much you care by bringing them to the Summer Working Bee at the club on Saturday 14 th February, Perhaps your love life isn t quite where you d like to be.there is demolition work available just for you! Jobs for the first working bee include minor demolition works in the bathroom, lots of painting and an assortment of other minor works. After a hard day on the tools, sit around the romantic fireplace and enjoy a glass of wine or heart shaped chocolate. Hope to see you there! 4

5 SUMMER ACCOMMODATION RATE, BOOKINGS AND RULES RATE 1) The off season summer) accommodation rate for 2014/15 is $15 per head per night for members, non members and children 4 and over. Children under 4 are free). 2) If you book the whole lodge, it is $300 per night. 3) After your stay, please confirm the number of guests and nights with Tabatha and she will send you an invoice. Payment details/methods will be outlined on the invoice. 4) Refunds for cancellations will be considered providing sufficient notice is given particularly cancellations during the busy holiday periods). BOOKINGS 1) ALL bookings must be made through TABATHA ECCLESTON. Her preferred method of contact is - tabecco@live.com.au, or if the matter is urgent or you don t have access to she can be contacted on please leave a message if she is not available to take your call). 2) When making your booking please provide total numbers of people, number of beds or rooms required and advise preferred incoming and outgoing dates. She will confirm with you the availability of the lodge and advise details for the collection and return of the key. The key must be returned to the Tabatha. RULES 1) Bookings must be made by a financial member. 2) Non members must be accompanied by a member. 3) Members are responsible to the Directors for their guest s behaviour in the lodge. 4) Electricity/lights etc. Turn on power at the main panel inside the front door. DO NOT TOUCH SWITCHES TO MANAGERS FLAT SWITCHES TAPED OVER). Turn the hot water on downstairs in boiler room instructions are on the wall). Turn switches off when you leave. 5) Lock all external doors and windows when you leave and close the internal fire doors. 6) No doonas or linen are available. Bring your own bedding. 7) Some sugar, tea, salt etc is available. 8) Some cleaning liquids and materials will be available. 9) Tea towels will be available. Please wash them and leave to dry before you leave. You can bring your own if you want. 10) Toilet paper is provided. 11) Suggest you bring fly spray as flies are pretty bad over summer. 12) The floor heating will be turned OFF. Fire wood is in the usual place. Please clean out the fire place when you leave the building and restock the wood. 13) Visitors are responsible for ALL CLEANING, this includes the kitchen, toilets, bathrooms, showers bedrooms, passageways, lounge, stairs, etc - clean stove tops, griller, oven, microwaves, bench tops, etc and the BBQ - remove ALL food from pantry - remove ALL food from refrigerators, turn them off, clean them and leave the doors open - vacuum the carpets & empty rubbish bins There are no managers in summer to clean up after you. 14) When you leave take ALL your garbage down to the Perisher Waste transfer station a map is on the wall in the kitchen). 15) Smoking is not permitted in the lodge. 16) In case of an emergency, eg a fire, the designated meeting place upon evacuation of the lodge is in the club car park. 17) There are other signs up around the lodge to help you out, please take a moment to read them. PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING AND LEAVE THE LODGE CLEAN AND TIDY FOR THE NEXT GROUP, REMEMBER IT COULD BE YOU THAT COPS THE NEXT MESS. When you pick up the key you will also be given a CHECK-IN INFORMATION & CHECK-OUT CHECKLIST this needs to be completed and returned to Tabatha with the key. HAVE A GREAT STAY AT COOMA HUT! 5
