3 BUCKSMORE EDUCATION Bucksmore Education has been running highquality English Language summer schools for juniors since We welcome individual students from all over the world to our ten stunning locations in the UK. Students at Bucksmore are always improving their language and communication skills inside and outside the classroom. As well as studying our challenging academic syllabuses, every student participates in a full activity and social programme. Our students are always busy and having fun. Our students live, study and explore the UK as part of an international community, speaking English from the moment they wake until they go to bed. Many returners arrange to come with new friends from their last Bucksmore summer. Staff to student ratio of 1:7 so students are looked after 24 hours a day. Native English speakers from the UK and USA attend several Bucksmore programmes. See individual programmes for more details. Learn More Each day has a fun theme, from Magic and Magicians to The Animal Kingdom. All of the day s lessons and activities are based around this theme so students forget they are learning English. The syllabus is unique and specially designed for young learners from complete beginners to pre-intermediate level. See More Each week includes a visit to a famous London Musical. The nonstop activity programme keeps students busy and having fun all day long. Experience More Bucky Kids is a very small course with a real family atmosphere. Special care is taken over the safety and wellbeing of all our students by our experienced and enthusiastic staff. Some Bucky Kids students travel with older brothers or sisters who take part in the Bucksmore Summer programme at King Edward s (page 17). Do More Bucky Adventure students take part in the same lessons and excursions as Bucksmore Summer at Plumpton College, but have separate activity sessions filled with adventure. Students will go sailing, raft building, mountain biking, mountain boarding, wall climbing, horse riding and they will also enjoy a survival night camping in the woods. Experience More Bucky Adventure is a small programme, creating a great atmosphere as students participate in their exciting activities. No experience is needed for any Adventure activities so it is the ideal opportunity to try something new. The Electives are taught by experts alongside local English teenagers. A Grand Exhibition is held at the end of every week for students to perform their new Elective skills. Learn More WUP introduces students to the UCAS application system and guides them through all the challenges in applying to top UK universities as an international student. By the end of the programme students will be much clearer about their educational goals. Achieve More Every year, at least one WUP alumnus goes on to study at Cambridge University, and many more successfully apply to other UK universities. It is a short, intensive course designed to give international students the best chance of successfully applying to these world-famous institutions. Experience More Students live and study in a beautiful Cambridge College and can explore this wonderful city. Students study and live with their teacher, and they travel to the local Bucksmore centre for two full-day excursions every week and one afternoon activity. Bucksmore Summer Focus is the best possible way for any junior student to try home tuition while also experiencing the action-packed activity and excursion programme at a Bucksmore summer centre. 34 Centre Manager: In overall charge of the centre. The CM is the main point of contact for all general welfare and accommodation issues. Director of Studies: Main contact for academic issues. The DoS monitors how each student is performing academically and makes sure all students are involved in the learning process at all times. Activity Manager: Responsible for the on-site activities and excursions. The AM monitors each activity closely to ensure all students are getting the maximum benefit from the activity programme. Counsellors: Wake students up, put them to bed, teach the academic programme, supervise meals, lead excursions and motivate students during activities. They are constantly involved with the students and are always on hand to listen and help students with welfare issues. 34
