5 Carnegie Classification The Carnegie Classification s purpose has been to assist those conducting research on higher education Our classification was revised in 2005, from National Liberal Arts to Baccalaureate Colleges Baccalaureate Colleges are then further divided into Public, Nonsectarian, Catholic, and Other Religious
6 Carnegie Classification continued The undergraduate instructional program classification is based on three pieces of information: the level of undergraduate degrees awarded (associates or bachelors), the extent to which bachelor s degrees are in arts and sciences or professional fields, and the extent to which an institution awards graduate degrees in the same fields as undergraduate degrees.
7 CIRP Cooperative Institutional Research Program of the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA Initiated in 1966 Contains longitudinal data from over 13,000,000 students from over 1,700 colleges and universities
8 CIRP continued In 2007, 374,261 respondents at 536 institutions took the survey. The normative data we ll report is based upon weighted responses of 272,036 first-time, fulltime students at 356 four year colleges and universities. This includes only those surveyed at the very beginning of their college experience.
