FASPSTREAM API Aspera created the new Aspera FASPStream API to support transfers to or from a custom process running in memory with another custom process running on a separate machine, or with a standard Aspera transfer server. With the new API, transfers are no longer limited to a file or file set so applications can transfer a stream of bytes as they are being created or captured, and can allow access to portions of a file in memory during the transfer process rather than waiting for the entire file to be written to disk. The API uses the Aspera FASP protocol, so transfers achieve maximum speed over any distance, with security, efficiency, and bandwidth control. Read more about the FASPStream API on page 32. ASCP4 The latest addition to the core transfer platform is the new ascp4 engine capable of sending the largest sets of small unique individual files and directories at FASP speeds. Aspera ascp4 removes the bottlenecks of transferring such large numbers of small files by sending metadata via the data transmission path (i.e. via FASP) instead of via the transmission control path. As a result, ascp4 can achieve transfer rates of a million files per minute, independent of the distance between source and destination. AUTOSCALE WITH THE ASPERA TRANSFER CLUSTER MANAGER Using the Autoscale functionality, the Aspera Transfer Cluster Manager (ATCM) enables dynamic, real-time scale out of transfer capacity. The service automatically manages the number of instances needed to support client transfer demands based on user-defined policies. The Autoscale feature determines how many nodes are in use and maintains a configured number of nodes in reserve - booted up in standby mode. As transfer loads increase, server nodes on standby become active to provide additional transfer capacity. As nodes reach a highly utilized state, the Autoscale feature provisions new nodes to take on additional transfers or stand by. As transfer loads diminish, nodes are automatically terminated to avoid overprovisioning.
