1 National Certificate in Health, Disability, and Aged Support (Health Assistants) (Level 3) Healthcare Assistance Health assistants are those who work under a supervising health professional. The Health Assistants qualification has four specialist strands covering: Dietitian Assistance, Dental Assistance, Healthcare Assistance, and Rehabilitation Assistance. Programme overview This qualification recognises the knowledge and skills required of allied health assistants (such as rehabilitation assistants, physiotherapy assistants, dental assistants, and dietitian assistants) as well as healthcare assistants. Learning and assessment for this qualification occurs in the workplace. Careerforce is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders through workforce training. Programme outline The qualification covers the following topics: Communication. quality improvement objectives. applying service plans. maximising independence. different lifespan stages. changes in clients health or functional status. cultural issues and values. 2 Average duration 13 months Fees $270 Credits 72 National Certificate in Health, Disability, and Aged Support (Health Assistants) (Level 3) Healthcare Assistance Enrolment requirements To enrol in the Healthcare Assistance strand, the trainee must meet the following requirements: be employed as a healthcare assistant in a health, disability or aged support organisation. have one of the following residency statuses: o New Zealand citizen (including Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau citizens) o New Zealand permanent resident o New Zealand work permit/work visa o Australian citizen o hold refugee status in New Zealand. 4 Core Elective Set 2: a minimum of 1 standard Domain: Allied Health Assistance Describe tooth notation and anatomy, dental caries, and periodontal disease Describe the anatomy and physiology of systems and associated organs of the human body Healthcare Assistance strand section A minimum of 22 credits from Sets 1 and 2, 16 credits must be at Level 3 to 4 and the balance of credits can be Level 2, 3 or 4.
