1 Internship Application At Krochet Kids international we are always on the lookout for new energy and support for our work. Interns play a key role in helping us further what we do as an organization and in expanding our ability to fulfill our mission: to empower people to rise above poverty. We love our interns. Each new team means a new group experiencing Krochet Kids in a deep and unique way, bringing their history and experience to the position while learning a host of new perspectives and skills. Our goals for interns are threefold: that they grow as individuals, professionally and personally; that they help us achieve more than we otherwise could; and that they become deeper advocates of the work that we do and the individuals we partner with around the globe. The internship is not lacking in fun, but it s also a lot of work. Ultimately, it s about a cause bigger than all of us, as we strive to see change in others lives. We are a group of passionate people doing what we love in order to show love to others around the world. We are often blown away at the opportunity we have to play a part in making this world better. As an organization, we are working to show that doing business and doing good can mean more, connect more, and impact more, than ever before. We are about creatively challenging outdated methods, and about finding and proving new ways to empower individuals and communities around the world. Because we know that with every life impacted, the ripples continue far beyond the immediately seen. This internship will be demanding, but it will be ever more rewarding. It will mean living with strangers who will become close friends, working long hours in new (maybe foreign!) surroundings, learning the ins and outs of the nonprofit world and social enterprise, pouring your heart and soul into projects you deeply believe in, and tirelessly spreading the message that with people s purchases, lives are changed. Oh, and it s really fun, too. And at the heart of it all will be the stories of the people, the families, and the communities that are strengthened daily by the work that we do. This is Empowerment.

2 Internship Description: Production Assistant Intern Lima, Peru Responsibilities: - Quality Control: (80% of workload) o Check all products for quality in one of two areas (you will be trained):! Knit: Hats, gloves, scarves, headbands, ties, & apparel or accessory panels! Cut & Sew: tailored hats, headbands, ties, bags, tech cases, & apparel o Clearly articulate needed changes to knitter/sewer to achieve quality. (You will be trained). o Ensure the collection and accounting of weekly production o Fulfill Quality Reporting Requirements - Production Special Operations: (20% of workload) o Assist the Production Manager in areas including, but not limited to:! Knit inventory management & payroll! Product development of knit goods! Cut & Sew quality revision, systems & inventory management! Post- Production organization & accounting o Participate in the import / export and procurement processes. o Learn what it takes to manage a business in a developing nation at US standards. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, proven strong self- initiative, ability to problem solve independently, and an interest in our products as well as quality- control procedures. Furthermore, the individual will have interest in production management, procurement, and/or logistics. Ideally, the candidate will have some knowledge of Spanish and international travel experience. We appreciate our interns interest in getting to know our beneficiaries on a personal basis. However, we want to be clear that this is not the primary goal of your internship. There are opportunities to talk to the ladies on a daily basis during work, but most of the relationships will be built during lunchtime, after work, or on the weekends. Internship Details Internship applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Peru internship term lasts for 6 months. We realize that many school schedules vary for start dates, so we are willing to work with you on your last work date with us. Internships are unpaid.

3 All interns will be required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, while also being available to work some weekends and participate in other weekend activities. Things to expect: you will be living in an apartment where you will have running water (probably hot ), electricity, and there are plenty of options for eating very normal food. Internet will be available at the office as well as your apartment, though spotty. Lima is not the slums, but it is a developing city. Our international staff currently living in Lima will be available to help you and encourage you through the assimilation process. Nonetheless, by applying to work abroad you are agreeing to be extremely flexible and embrace the challenges that are sure to come and have the best 6 months of your life. All interns are required to raise funds to cover appointment and repatriation travel and airfare (we will facilitate in travel arrangements). In addition you are required to raise $700/month to cover rent, visas, food, in country travel/tourism, and in country cell phone use. Don t let this scare you from applying! If you feel this is a big challenge, we d love to work with you to raise funds. As a 501c3 organization, all donations made to Krochet Kids are tax- deductible, and give your sponsors an incentive to support you! College credit is available and recommended for the internship! We suggest that you start talking with your school advisor now about the steps necessary for this. We are more than willing to fill out the needed paperwork to ensure that you get academic credit for your work with us. Application Guideline Applications are due in full by date listed on website. 5 SPECIAL PROJECT: Quality Control We want to see your skills in action! A large part of the Production Assistant internship will be problem solving on the fly as well as creating and implementing systems that have the potential to make the supply chains and production capacities of Krochet Kids Peru more efficient. With this in mind please offer a concise solution to the following problem: 1. It is 9AM. You have 500 hats to ship to the US by the end of the day. While packing hats, you notice that all the individually signed labels of the 500 hats are wrong. The ladies used labels saying 20% Acrylic 80% Wool instead of 10% Nylon 90%Acrylic. You can t delay the shipment, your supervisor is out of town with no cell phone coverage, the Production Manager is packing boxes for the afternoon s shipment, the ladies are knitting products being shipped next week, and the other interns are checking hats also being shipped next week.
