1 Primary school (key stage ) Performance tables Islington

2 Introduction The performance tables give information on s of in local primary schools, and how y compare with or schools in local authority (LA) area and in England as a le. This booklet presents a selection of key performance measures, but a wider range of information is available at

3 About tables in this booklet General The national curriculum key stage test results for state funded schools in England are provided in se tables along with teacher assessment data. For each LA, schools are listed alphabetically, with special schools shown in a separate section at end of each list. Schools that do not take up to age of (e.g. infant schools) are not included. Neir are independent schools as re is no requirement for m to enter ir for national curriculum tests. If your child attends a school listed in tables, you may be interested to see how its results compare with or schools in area, and with LA and national averages. To get a more rounded picture, you can also obtain details of most recent Ofsted judgements of school. You may want to discuss results with teachers at your child s school. How do y feel ir school is performing, and what plans do y have to improve s of? How can you support work of school? What more can you do to help your own child do better? Choosing a school If using performance tables to inform your choice of school, be aware that y give only part of picture of each school and its s. Schools change from year to year and ir future results may difer from those achieved by current. You should also look at more than one performance measure to get an idea of how latest results for diferent schools compare. For example, while igures for percentage of achieving + in and maths gives an indication of s at end of KS, it doesn t tell you how far y have progressed from ir starting point. Expected progress and value added measures give you information to consider alongside attainment data, and an explanation of both can be found in user guidance section of website at You should also consider data in performance tables and this booklet alongside or important sources of information such as Ofsted reports, visits to school itself and talking to teachers. Ofsted school inspection reports can be obtained from eir tables website, or direct from school on request. Expected s of primary school performance at end of key stage The government assesses mainstream state funded primary schools performance against loor standards. Considered against se, a school would be seen as underperforming if: fewer than % of at end of key stage (KS) achieved or above in all of and below average percentage of at end of KS made reading ( national median=) and below average percentage of at end of KS made ( national median =) and below average percentage of at end of KS made maths ( national median=). What a school s attainment measures tell you National curriculum tests measure attainment against speciied s. They measure extent to which have speciic knowledge, skills and understanding that national curriculum expects m to have mastered in reading (test), (based on teacher assessment) and mamatics (test) by end of key stage. However, schools KS test results are largely afected by prior attainment of ir (how well y did at KS). Therefore, in comparing efectiveness of two or more primary schools, it is best to also look at ir KS average points score; percentage of making and in maths; and information on s and progress of, at end of KS had been assessed as being eir below, at or above.

Breakdown of and progress for each of three ability groups. See section on low, middle and high attainers for furr information. The and percentage of all or ie not eligible for free school meals or children looked after. Pupils attract pupil premium funding on basis of: being eligible for free school meals within last years; adopted from care; been in care of local authority for a day or more; or been subject to a special guardianship or child arrangements order Throughout year, teachers assess ir in each subject as a part of ir teaching and report which best describes a pupil s performance. The and percentage of on roll at school with statements of SEN or an Education, Health and Care Plan. A statement describes any learning diiculties that pupil has and speciies extra help y need.

6 Pupils reported in tables Our calculations of performance measures are based on results of all at end of KS, including those were absent on day of test or working at of tests but unable to access m. This can happen if all, or part, of a test is not suitable for a pupil with particular special educational needs, though tests are designed to cater for most. Because those are included in calculations but did not achieve a test, this may disproportionately afect a school s results. To help you take this into account, we show percentage of eligible were absent at time of tests or working at of tests but unable to access m. The higher percentage of those, more a school s results may have been afected by with no test results. Pupils excluded from calculation of performance tables igures The government accepts that are unlikely to be able to show what y can do in tests until y have improved ir English language skills and are more familiar with curriculum in this country. Therefore, we accept schools requests to remove from our calculation of results where ir irst language is not English and y have been admitted to school in / or / school year from particular countries outside United Kingdom. These do not count towards school s results but are included in national igures.

7 Description of measures published in performance tables Achievements in & mamatics The majority of are to achieve or above in. The performance measures in this booklet show percentage of eligible to sit tests have achieved that in both reading tests and in teacher assessment. We also show percentages have achieved and below and or above in all three subjects. We provide results separately for each of se subjects and for English grammar, punctuation and spelling test. (APS) This shows, at school, local authority area and national, average points score achieved. APS is calculated using following formula: ((a pupil s reading test score + teacher assessment) divided by + maths) Divided by If any have no point score for one of more subjects, it will be calculated from remaining subjects. These are n be averaged over all eligible in school. While two schools may achieve same overall results in percentage achieving + in measure, APS may show that, on average, in one school scored higher in tests than those in or. Key Stage to Key Stage Progress Measures The government expects majority of to progress by at least two s of progress between KS and KS i.e. if a pupil was assessed as being at in at end of KS, expectation is that y would have progressed to at least Level in that subject by end of KS. The tables show proportion of, by end of KS, have made at least minimum progress.

8 Teacher Assessment (TA) Schools submit data based on ir own assessment of ir s of ability in a of subjects. In this booklet, we have given TA results for each of and mamatics. Furr information is available on performance tables website e.g. on English and science TA. Closing Gap Raising attainment of children with most deprived circumstances is a government priority. The pupil premium guarantees additional funding for schools with children eligible for free school meals at any time within last six years (FSM); children looked after (CLA) for day or more; those have been adopted from care; or have left care under a special guardianship order, a residence order or a child arrangements order. These measures show how performance of disadvantaged (deined here as children listed above) compares against or in a school. They also gap in attainment and progress between a school s disadvantaged and ir peers nationally. Three year rolling averages provide a better picture of performance than a single year s igures, particularly where small s of are involved., middle and high attainers This measure highlights any diferences in performance and progress of, at end of KS were low attaining, high attaining or performing at s. Prior attainment deinitions are based on KS teacher assessment as follows. Below = those below Level at KS; At = those at Level at KS; Above = those above Level at KS.

Community School Community schools are maintained by local authority (LA). The LA is admissions authority - it has main responsibility for deciding arrangements for admitting. Community Special School Community Special Schools are maintained by LA, and make provision for with special educational needs. Foundation School Foundation Schools are maintained by LA. The governing body is admissions authority - it has main responsibility for deciding arrangements for admitting. Foundation Special School Foundation Special Schools are maintained by LA, and make provision for with special educational needs. Free Schools Free Schools are all-ability state-funded schools set up in response to what local people say y want and need in order to improve education for children in ir community. They have same legal requirements as academies and enjoy same freedoms and lexibilities. Special Academy Special Academies are academies organised to make provision for with special educational needs. Voluntary Aided school Voluntary Aided schools are maintained by LA, with a foundation (generally religious) that appoints most of governing body. The governing body is admissions authority. Voluntary Controlled school Voluntary Controlled schools are maintained by LA, with a foundation (generally religious) which appoints some - but not most - of governing body. The LA is admissions authority. Or Information in Tables Children Looked After (CLA) This refers to children for se care local authority is responsible i.e. it is corporate parent Key Stage (KS) Key stage tasks and tests are taken at end of key stage programme of study, normally in Year, when children are seven years old. Towards end of KS, teachers complete assessments of each child s of ability in each subject. Key Stage (KS) Key stage tests in mamatics are taken at end of key stage programme of study, normally in Year when children are years old. Teachers also submit assessments of s of in English, and science. Eligible All, including those with special educational needs, are eligible for assessment under national curriculum when y reach end of key stage. Most will be aged by end of school year, but some will be older or younger. This includes all eligible on school roll at time of tests, regardless of wher or not y sat tests (some may have been absent or working at of tests but unable to access m).
