Multiple joint aches and pains should be referred to Rheumatology. Patients with obvious osteoarthritis of hip to have weight bearing AP and lateral x-rays. Patients with obvious osteoarthritis of knee to have weight bearing AP, lateral and sky-line x-rays. Procedures Performed Blood tests Joint and soft tissue Injections X-rays MR scans Nerve conduction studies Appropriate onward referrals to Secondary Care provider or AHP if required
2 Additional Information The team is made up of six Extended Scope Practitioners and three GPs with Special Interest (GPwSI). Claire Purcell qualified in 1992 (specialising in Orthopaedics in 1994) and since has worked in both the NHS and Private sector. She has three years experience as an Extended Scope Practitioner. Her qualifications include BSc Physiotherapy, MSc Module in Extending Health Care Proficiencies, Orthopaedic Medicine Diploma and Injection Therapy Diploma. She has also attended numerous MSK courses. Claire is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Health Professional Council, Society of Orthopaedic Medicine and the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. Kay Hebden qualified in 1987has over 15 years of experience in musculoskeletal GP Direct Access service and began working as a ESP when the Stockport OAS was first set up. Since 2002 she has been working in an extended scope role in the assessment and diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions. Her qualifications include an MSc Module in Extending Proficiencies in healthcare Salford University and she has an associate-ship in Physiotherapy from Sheffield Polytechnic. Kay has attended many postgraduate musculoskeletal courses including Orthopaedic medicine Diploma and the year long manipulation therapy course (MACP). Kay is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, the Health Professional Council and the CSP Extended Scope Practitioners. Verna Cuthbert qualified in 1993 gaining a 1st Class BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy at Manchester. This followed on from a Sports Science BSc (Hons) from Loughborough. She has worked in both the NHS and private settings. Verna has seven years experience working in an extended role in the assessment and diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions. Verna has worked in secondary care with Mr Todd, Orthopaedic Spinal Consultant, for five years. In the past two years Verna has worked in the spinal CATS service which has a close working relationship with the spinal team at Stepping Hill Hospital. Verna has attended many Postgraduate courses including the MSc module in Extending Proficiencies in Healthcare at Salford; Orthopaedic Medicine Diploma in injection therapy and McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (A-E). Verna is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, the Health Professional Council, the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine, McKenzie Group and the CSP ESP Occupational Group.
3 Julie Froggatt-Bailey has 10 years post graduate experience working alongside Mr Dalal Specialist Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon SHH in Foot and Ankle clinics and attending multidisciplinary case study meetings. Her qualifications include a BSc (Hons) 1 st Class Podiatric Medicine, an MSc Sports Injury and therapy and an MSc Module Extending Healthcare Proficiencies Salford University. She has attended many musculoskeletal postgraduate courses including knee pathology and rehabilitation, Steroid injection and Diagnostic ultrasound. Julie is a member of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists and the Health Professional Council. Nick Currie qualified in 1997 and since then has gained extensive experience in musculoskeletal practice in both the NHS and private sectors. His qualifications include a BSc Honours Physiotherapy, a Post Graduate Diploma in Manual Therapy, a Diploma in Injection Therapy and he has also completed the Extending Proficiencies in Healthcare Module at Salford University. Nick is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Health Professional Council. He is also a member of the Manipulative Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. Sofie Zermansky qualified as a physiotherapist in 1997 and since then has worked in both the NHS and Private sector. She has over seven years of musculoskeletal experience including 3 years of Orthopaedic ward work. She has been working at a superintendent/ ESP level for over 6 years, direct listing for lower limb surgery. Her qualifications include a diploma in orthopaedic Medicine, Injection therapy and extending proficiencies module (commenced Feb 08). She has attended many musculoskeletal courses. Sofie is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, the Health Professional Council and the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine. Alexa Dawson qualified in 1996 and since then has gained experienced through a variety of Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal roles including being a Senior Lecturer at the Manchester Metropolitan University. Her qualifications include an MSc in Advanced Physiotherapy, Masters Module in Joint and Soft Tissue Injection Therapy, Masters Module in Extended proficiencies and post graduate certificate in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy. Over the years she has attended numerous musculoskeletal courses. Alexa is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, the Health Professions Council and the AACP and CSP Extended Scope Practitioners.
4 Frances Arnall is currently working in the spinal CATS service which has close working relationships with the Spinal team at Stepping Hill Hospital. She has extensive clinical experience in both the NHS and Private sector in establishing/developing/implementing new services to give improved patient care and well as assessing/identifying/evaluating evidence to produce meaningful treatment plans to provide a high standard of care. She has over 7 years of experience in secondary care Spinal clinics working alongside Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeons in a large teaching hospital. Her qualifications include Diploma in physiotherapy, MPhil, Postgraduate diploma in Biomechanics and Extending Proficiencies in Healthcare Masters Module. She has attended many musculoskeletal courses at a postgraduate level including acupuncture, manual therapy, orthopaedic medicine, muscle imbalance. Frances is a member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, the Health Professional Council, the Physiotherapy Research Society (and officer), the Society for Back Pain Research and the CSP Extended Scope Practitioners. Dr Phil Riley qualified at Manchester in His extensive qualifications and experience include Sports & Exercise Medicine Diploma (Bath) 2003, Fellow of the Faculty of Sports & Exercise Medicine (Ire) 2004, Member of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine (UK) 2006, Society of Orthopaedic Medicine Course (1997). He is currently studying for the Post-graduate Certificate in Orthopaedic Management (Salford). He has been the England U-18 Rugby Team Doctor since 2002/3 and tour doctor for the England Hockey Team since He also has extensive sports injury experience with Bolton Wanderers FC Academy (2004-6), ad hoc roles with the FA (England U19s 2008), Manchester United Academy, English Institute of Sport in Manchester and Spire Hospital Sports Injury Clinic. He is a mentor for post-graduate students studying the Dip Sports Med at Bath and on the BOA medical list. He has been a GPwSI in Trauma & Orthopaedics since Dr Graham Parker held an SHO post in orthopaedics as part of his training and has maintained his interest since. He undertook the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine training in 2001 and has regularly spent time training in clinic and theatre with consultant colleagues at SHH over the last 5 yrs. He is currently studying for the Post-graduate Certificate in Orthopaedic Management (Salford University).
5 Mark Gallagher is a full time GP but also working as GPwSI within Orthopaedic Tier 2 service based at Kingsgate. Previous experience includes: 2 years in hospital jobs as a junior doctor in Orthopaedics working within all specialties in particular hand, joint replacement, knee plus children and trauma. Also 2 years working within the emergency department. Currently studying towards the Diploma in Orthopaedic Management at Salford University
