2 Bill Pr2 Mr. Nielsen BILL Pr BETHESDA BIBLE COLLEGE AMENDMENT ACT, 2015 (Assented to, 2015) Preamble WHEREAS Bethesda Bible College, a branch of Bethesda Church Ltd., was incorporated by Bethesda Bible College Act, chapter 39, Statutes of Alberta, 1996; WHEREAS Bethesda Church Ltd. changed its name in 2009 to Christcity Church Ltd. ; and WHEREAS the petitioner is praying that the Act be amended to change the name of the College to Christcity Theological Institute and it is expedient to grant the prayer of the petition; THEREFORE HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, enacts as follows: Amends SA 1996 c39 1 The Bethesda Bible College Act is amended by this Act. 2 The title of the Act is struck out and the following is substituted: CHRISTCITY THEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE ACT 3 The preamble is amended by striking out and at the end of the first and second recitals and by adding the following after the second recital: 1
3 Explanatory Notes 1 Amends chapter 39 of the Statutes of Alberta, Name change. 3 The preamble presently reads: WHEREAS Bethesda Church Ltd. has been operating a bible college known as Bethesda Bible College of Edmonton, Alberta; and WHEREAS Bethesda Bible College has proposed to operate 1 Explanatory Notes
4 WHEREAS Bethesda Church Ltd. changed its name in 2009 to Christcity Church Ltd.; WHEREAS Bethesda Bible College is to operate under the name of Christcity Theological Institute to correspond to the Church s change in name; and 4 Section 1(c) is amended by striking out Bethesda Bible College and substituting Christcity Theological Institute. 5 Section 2 is repealed and the following is substituted: Continuation 2 The Bethesda Bible College is continued as a body corporate under the name Christcity Theological Institute and shall consist of the members elected or appointed pursuant to the bylaws. 6 Section 8 is amended by striking out subsection (2). 7 Section 10(b)(i) is amended by striking out Bethesda Church Ltd. and substituting Christcity Church Ltd.. 2
5 independently from Bethesda Church Ltd. and that Bethesda Bible College should have the power and authority as a body corporate; and WHEREAS a petition has been presented praying that it be enacted as hereinafter set forth and it is expedient to grant the prayer of the petition; THEREFORE HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, enacts as follows: 4 Section 1(c) presently reads: 1 In this Act, (c) College means Bethesda Bible College; 5 Section 2 presently reads: Incorporation 2 Ron Steinbrenner Jeff Harmon and Jeff Wells and other such persons as are from time to time appointed to be members of the Board are hereby incorporated under the name of Bethesda Bible College. 6 Section 8(2) presently reads: 8(2) The first members of the Board shall be those persons named in section 2 who shall hold office until their successors are appointed at a meeting of the Board for that purpose, at which a new Board shall be elected by the members of the College in accordance with the by-laws. 7 Section 10(b)(i) presently reads: 10 Notwithstanding anything in the Business Corporations Act or any other Act, in the event of the winding-up of the College (b) if there are no by-laws in force of the nature referred to in section 9 at the commencement of the winding-up proceedings, the liquidator shall (i) unless and until any other church organization or educational institution has formally merged or amalgamated with, or has formally pooled or combined its assets or some portion thereof with those of the College thereby making a capital contribution to the assets of the College, transfer any 2 Explanatory Notes
