1 Professional Organization Checklist f the Computer Infmation Systems Curriculum Association of Computing Machinery and Association of Infmation Systems IS 2002 Model Curriculum and Guidelines f Undergraduate Degrees in Infmation Systems, 2002 These general standards are taken from IS 2002 Model Curriculum and Guidelines f Undergraduate Degrees in Infmation Systems, ACM, AIS, AITP, 2002 ( The goal of IS 2002 is to create a curriculum f departments who are wking on Infmation Systems program accreditation. Because of the size of our university and the small number of IS/CS faculty, it is not possible f our program to become accredited and f us to fully meet these standards. We have however, designed a curriculum that follows the essential ideas of the CIS/IS standards listed below (these were extracted directly from IS 2002). Standard Infmation Systems Fundamentals Infmation systems fundamentals include a broad introduction to the field of Infmation Systems and infmation technology plus instruction designed to improve personal productivity in an ganization through effective and efficient use of infmation technology. Infmation Systems They and Practice Students will be introduced to concepts and theies that explain motivate methods and practices in the development and use of infmation systems in ganizations. The concepts and theies will include systems, management, and ganization, infmation, quality, and decision-making. The relationship of infmation systems to cpate planning and strategy and concepts relating infmation technology to comparative advantage and productivity are explained. The concepts and practices underlying the use of infmation technology and systems in improving ganizational perfmance are presented. Infmation Technology Students will gain breadth and depth in the technical aspects of the discipline. Computing system architectures, operating systems software, and interconnection of infmation resources through netwking are maj components of presentation and discussion. Students will be expected to develop significant skills by participating in installation, configuration, and operation of the technologies. 2 Infmation Systems Development Students will wk in teams to analyze problems and design and implement infmation systems. Systems analysis provides experience determining system requirements and developing a logical design. Instruction in physical design of infmation systems will ensure that the students can use a logical design to implement infmation systems in both a DBMS and in emerging development environments. Students should be exposed to a variety of development approaches Infmation Systems Deployment and Management Students engage in numerous projects. Management of the infmation systems function, systems integration, and project management to ensure project quality are integral components of this curriculum area.
