B.sc (Ilorin), M.sc (Ibadan) Department of Physiology, Faculty Basic Medical Sciences, University of Ilorin, Ilorin. Kwara State, Nigeria. tmsalman@unilorin.edu.ng Office location: Room G4, Department of Physiology wing, College of Health Sciences building. Consultation Hours: 12-2 pm, Thursdays and Fridays Course content: Introduction to physiology and Anatomy 15h (T) C. Course Description; The course is designed to introduce the students of the performing arts to basic physiology and anatomy. Definitions of physiology and anatomy, cell-tissue-organsystem organization of the body, anatomical positions, planes, sections, terms of movement terms of relationships, bones and joints, organs of phonation and articulations, blood, eye, ear, respiratory and muscular systems will be taught. course justification. The course provides an opportunity for the students of the performing arts to know basic physiology and anatomy. Thus, the students are made to be aware of the structure and functions of the body especially those parts of the body which are necessary for their performance as performing artists e.g. the eye, ear, organs of phonation and articulation (larynx, tongue and lips), bones and joints, muscular and respiratory systems. Course objectives: To introduce students to basic physiology and anatomy. At the end of the course, the students should be able to: 1. Define physiology and anatomy 2. Know what a cell, tissue, organ or system is 3. List the various systems of the body 4. Define anatomical position and demonstrate it 5. Know terms of relationship and movement. 6. know the organs of phonation and articulation 7. know the structure and functions of the eye and ear. 8. Functions of blood and types of blood cells 9. Skeletal system and movement 10. Respiratory system and its functions Course Requirement This is a compulsory course for all students of physiology. In view of this, all students are expected to participate in all the course activities and have a minimum of 75% attendance to be able to write the final examination. - They will be expected to treat the study questions and assignments. - Students are expected to have addresses.
