Introducing The Coffee Guy The origina Coffee Guy van deivered its first fresh, hot espresso to workers and commuters in June With a Drivethru set up on Shore Road in Remuera, Auckand, and numerous businesses keen on having coffee deivered, the van was run ragged satisfying the coffee cravings of just one sma Auckand suburb. The popuarity of The Coffee Guy amongst workers and commuters was matched ony by the enthusiasm of keen Kiwis wanting to ditch their nine-to-five in search of something that offered a rea work-ife baance. We estabished the first franchise in January 2006, and very quicky new vans began popping up around the country. The Coffee Guy network has since grown to become the argest mobie coffee franchise in New Zeaand with over 50 franchises in operation. Foowing the success of our mobie coffee van franchise system, we introduced fixed sites in 2012 with a drive-thru on Tamaki Drive. Whie the format is sighty different, it sti offers the same great menu that s so popuar amongst our oya customers. And it enjoys the same ow overheads that make our franchise systems simpe, ow-risk and easy-to-run. In ate 2012, The Coffee Guy franchise business and brand was purchased by ASX-isted Retai Food Group Limited, or entities associated with it, a company that speciaises in retai food franchises. Retai Food Group has numerous brands in its portfoio, incuding Esquires, bb s Café, Donut King, Miche s Patisserie, Pizza Capers, Crust Gourmet Pizza, and Brumby s Bakery. The Coffee Guy was a great opportunity for the company to enter the mobie coffee market with a stand-out brand that has become we-known and popuar in New Zeaand. Furthermore, there were many synergies between the two companies. In particuar, both The Coffee Guy and Retai Food Group view the success of a franchisees as vita to the success of the overa franchise brand. Whie The Coffee Guy ownership has changed, itte ese has. We have kept our proven system, warm company cuture, and awesome brand. Retai Food Group were attracted to The Coffee Guy because we are good at what we do; if it s not broken, don t fix it! The change has aso added to the resources that we can tap in to, which wi ony benefit our franchisees: we can draw on the weath of experience in franchising and coffee; we have a dedicated training faciity; we have access to the we-resourced marketing and IT departments; and we are incuded in the group s arge buying power. It s a good! So, what does the future hod for The Coffee Guy? With our we-estabished brand, new franchise systems, and the support of Retai Food Group, we are a set to GROW in New Zeaand. And there wi be many great opportunities for peope who want to grow with us! 2

Our key peope Megan Piper Genera Manager Franchise Systems I ve been with The Coffee Guy for about seven years now, from its very eary days with a handfu of vans to this great spread across the country that we have today. What do I ike about the brand and the various roes I ve had within it? It aways starts with the peope, doesn t it, and this is no different. We have a huge variety of great franchisees, from mums returning to work, to weary ex-corporates ooking for work-ife baance, to young entrepreneurs ooking for their first step into business ownership. The thing that ties our ot together is their initia desire to do something for themseves in a way that better suits their ifestye, and this ater extends to providing great coffee and customer service to their customers, to make their day just a itte bit better. We aso have a great team here at our office, with each of us keen to keep the brand growing and adding more positive, outgoing and dedicated franchisees to it. David Bernard Franchise Saes Manager I joined the The Coffee Guy team in August My roe is to hep find peope new opportunities across New Zeaand. What I ove about this business is the wide variety of wonderfu peope you meet a sorts from different backgrounds. What most of these peope have in common is they have reached a stage where they want a change and to take on a new chaenge. The Coffee Guy offers exacty that, and it s reay satisfying when we find the right person and the right franchise business. We are one big famiy spread right across New Zeaand and are aways ooking to find great peope wanting a positive change. Ruby Gibson Business Deveopment Manager Our franchisees work in a reay unique environment that I find reay interesting and rewarding to be a part of. They deiver not just great coffee and a great service, they aso offer a break from the daiy grind and a bit of a chat with their coeagues and their barista; it s no wonder that many of our franchisee s customers become their friends over time! My roe, and the roe of our franchisees, is quite unike any other than I have had before in hospitaity. You tend to deveop reay cose reationships, and your customers come to rey on you for a bit of sunshine in their day. I reay enjoy traveing the country and working beside peope who are passionate about what they do, in an industry we a ove. The Coffee Guy has a great infrastructure, a passionate team, deicious coffee beans and a weath of knowedge that is a resource to us a the recipe for success! Mike Eson Barista Trainer My approach to coffee is the same I use in the rest of my ife: earn the theory of how to do it best, appy the theory in a practica environment, and then go faster. Being a barista is no different and we can teach you a of the skis that you need to be abe to provide a great cup and quicky. What I enjoy about The Coffee Guy franchisees is that they are owner-operators so they have a rea desire to earn about coffee and improve what they are doing. This appies to the team I work with at head office as we. Since starting in Juy 2013, everyone I have met through The Coffee Guy is invested in growing and deveoping the brand, ooking at ways to do things better, striving to make that happen. For me this comes from persona commitment to doing it right, consistenty, and then increasing the pace, just ike ife. 4
Why franchising? Franchising is a very popuar and successfu business format in New Zeaand. Franchising offers business buyers the opportunity to be in business for themseves, but not by themseves. Franchisees own and operate their own business with the backing of an estabished, proven franchise system. Typicay, franchising invoves the payment of an initia franchise fee and on-going franchise service fees from the franchisee to the franchisor, with the franchisee then receiving a icense from the franchisor to operate a business under a brand name or system (or both) for a specified period of time. The benefits of being part of a franchise system are significant. The combined strength of a muti-brand franchise system provides franchisees with: A competitive edge under a we-known brand; Access to estabished and proven business systems; Greater brand awareness through the visibiity of the brand; Access to support and guidance from experienced operations staff; and Buying power to ensure our franchisees get top quaity products at great prices. Our concepts The Coffee Guy s mission is to provide peope with a franchise business that is: An entry-eve to a hospitaity business Simpe and fun to own and operate Low investment To do this, we have two franchise systems that a operate under the same, popuar brand of The Coffee Guy: Mobie Coffee Van (pg 6) Fixed Sites (pg 7) 5
Mobie Coffee Van Key Facts Investment guide: Franchise Service Fee: Marketing Levy: Training provided: $99,300 - $115,000 + GST* $110 + GST per week $15 + GST per week 3 weeks (this incudes one week barista and administration training at our office and two weeks training out on the road to set up your business). The Mobie Coffee Van is the origina franchise system estabished by The Coffee Guy. Our franchisees are charged with deivering perfect espresso coffee to peope when and where they want it. Our customers ove this consistency and convenience. Each franchisee has both a Corporate Run Territory that they cover during the week, as we as an Event Territory that they operate within during the weekend. In the Corporate Run Territory our franchisees operate their Corporate Run, and an Eary Bird Business Stop when appropriate. In the weekend, there are many events that can be attended where a ot of peope are in desperate need of a coffee. Eary Bird Business Some franchises have an Eary Bird Business Stop (this is dependent upon the characteristics of the territory). This can be a drive-thru or a centra ocation in a business area. A drive-thru is a ocation where commuters can pu over and order their favourite brew without having to get out of their car. Aternativey, our vans can set up in a dense business area where they can provide coffee to peope as they arrive to work. The Coffee Guy has Eary Bird Business Stops around New Zeaand so we are very experienced in estabishing them. We carefuy choose the ocation in conjunction with the franchisee to make sure there are a the right ingredients for success. Business Deivery Run The Business Deivery Run is the bread and butter of most of our franchises. During the Business Deivery Run, we deiver coffee to our customers whie they re at work. With a set schedue of businesses, we go to the same pace at the same time each day. Our customers rey on us, so consistency is key everyone needs their coffee! How do we get our customers? During the set-up of the business, our operations staff train new franchisees on securing new customers. By the end of the set-up period, there shoud be a good foundation of reguar customers to see every day. From there, it s a matter of deivering the run and working to grow the saes and customer base. Events Throughout the year, there are events where peope need great coffee. In the winter, The Coffee Guy can be kept busy at weekend sports games, as parents turn out to stand on the sideine of rugby fieds and netba courts to watch their chidren pay. What more coud you want than a freshy made, hot coffee? Needess to say, The Coffee Guy is often the man of the match! In summer, there s aways a ot going on. The Coffee Guy is invited to schoo gaas, festivas, weddings, and sports events. We aso proactivey work to secure new events and have great reationships with event organizers nationwide. The initia investment incudes: New Suzuki APV van, custom-fitted with espresso hardware and finished in stainess stee. Chattes and accessories. Initia training and set-up. Excusive Corporate Run Territory Monday to Friday, and non-excusive Event Territory Saturday to Sunday. * Why is the investment a guide ony? Some of the costs are variabe and depend on your circumstances (e.g. whether you wi need to pay for trave and accommodation for training, the food icensing requirements of your oca counci, and the size and nature of the ocation if you are estabishing a kiosk or an espresso bar). Other costs may change over time as they are set by our suppiers (e.g. the cost of the Suzuki APV van). Of course, you want to know exacty what the investment wi be, and we can provide this once we know a bit more about you and where you want to estabish your business. 6
Fixed Site Key Facts Investment guide: Franchise Service Fee: Marketing Levy: Training provided: $140,300 - $164,500 + GST* $110 + GST per week $15 + GST per week 2-3 weeks (this incudes one week barista and administration training at our office and one to two weeks on-site setting up your business). The Fixed Site franchise system was a natura progression for The Coffee Guy. The new system was in recognition of the success of the Drive-thru component of the mobie coffee van, and focuses mainy on this popuar service. The first Fixed Site was estabished on Auckand s Tamaki Drive in This iconic ocation is perfect for the system as it is a key arteria route for commuters as we as a picturesque ocation frequented by wakers, runners and cycists. Foowing its success, the Fixed Site has been introduced as a franchise system. The Fixed Site mode is, in many ways, very simiar to the traditiona mobie coffee van. It offers its customers the same popuar hot beverage menu, a stand-out brand, and customer service that goes the extra mie. And to franchisees, it offers a owinvestment, simpe franchise business. The main differences are: Customers come to you rather than you going to them. This means the Fixed Site oca area marketing takes a different approach moving away from direct seing to awareness buiding. Of course, regardess of the format, both the Mobie Coffee Van and Fixed Sites require a great product and service is provided to the customer so that they keep coming back. The investment cost is sighty higher due to the higher set-up costs of Fixed Sites. The ongoing expenses are different. Whie the Mobie Coffee Van franchise system needs to cover the ongoing running and maintenance of the van, the Fixed Site mode wi need to meet the expense of the ground and/or buiding rent. The Fixed Sites have more space and the abiity to add more faciities, so a wider range of products can be offered. When estabishing a Fixed Site, we wi work with the franchisee to find a suitabe ocation, design and buid the kiosk, as we as to aunch the new business. We aso provide reguar support throughout your time as a franchisee through a Business Deveopment Manager. 7
The Secret to our Success Is it our very own bend of ocay roasted espresso coffee beans? Is it our styish fit-outs, designed and fitted out with quaity espresso hardware? Coud it be our strong brand that sets us apart from the competition? The training and support from head office? Each of these things is an important part of The Coffee Guy s success. But there s something more important than a of them. Something fundamenta to the way we do business. And it is something that we insist everyone invoved with The Coffee Guy understands and ives by. That thing is our beief in the importance of having great reationships with everyone who comes in contact with The Coffee Guy. What do we mean when we tak about great reationships? We mean reationships buit on genuine care for the peope we dea with, on friendiness and generosity, and on being trustworthy and dependabe. For franchisees, this means remembering their customers names and how they ike their coffee. It aso means making the same great coffee with a smie. It means every cup is made with care. No matter how busy we get, we make sure the beans are freshy ground, the espresso is goden, and the mik is vevety. But it doesn t stop there. We aso strongy beieve in having a great reationship between The Coffee Guy franchisor and our franchisees. There s penty of opportunity for you to be a successfu Coffee Guy too. In fact, we are the argest mobie coffee franchise in New Zeaand, with thousands of coffee drinkers. There s huge potentia for you to be part of our success. Is The Coffee Guy for you? Our franchisees come from a waks of ife, with backgrounds as diverse as the wider community. Just read about David and Sandra to get an idea of the different types of peope we have in our franchise group. David Gibert has been our Genfied franchisee for over five years. He enjoys a reaxed working ife and has deveoped a steady corporate run that generates soid returns whie sti aowing him to take time off to spend with his grandchidren, or for the odd trip away with his wife. David works from 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. as we as a reguar Saturday event in the winter. He ikes a chat with his customers; that s one of the things he oves about his business. Sandra, our Eersie franchisee, has been with The Coffee Guy for about the same ength of time as David, but what she wants from the business is a bit different. She has deveoped a very busy drive-thru and corporate run, which she operates from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. She aso chooses to work over many weekends to add to her income she has previousy had saes of over $7,000 in one week! It s important to Sandra to grow and improve her business. She aso ikes to remain among our top saes performers. Athough David and Sandra are quite different in how they run their business, they are both getting what they want from it. This is our aim for a of our franchisees. We understand that everyone wants a different baance of work, income, and ifestye, and we set up each new franchise with this in mind. And remember we do not require that you have experience in business ownership or hospitaity. If you are wondering whether you are the right person for The Coffee Guy, start by asking yoursef the foowing questions: 1. Do I have the strong commitment and determination required to meet The Coffee Guy s high standards? 2. Do I have a true passion for customer service? 3. Do I have the abiity and wiingness to foow set systems and procedures? 4. Do I have a strong work ethic and beief in mysef? 5. Do I have a desire to set and achieve goas? 6. Am I happy to work for mysef each day, investing my time and energy into my own business? 7. Can I safey meet the financia commitment? 8. Do I want to work eary in the morning (and finish in the afternoon) and work outside? 8

What some of our franchisees have to say Jeff Robinson, Hamiton. Jeff joined The Coffee Guy in March 2010 when he estabished the Frankton, Hamiton franchise. I was a payro team eader and I d grown very tired of the same desk, same issues every day. I wanted to see some rea rewards so I started ooking for a good franchise where the ground work had been done and the systems were in pace. It s a big step eaving a good saary to step out into the unknown, but my famiy were behind me and so was the franchisor. I had my training week in Auckand then the franchise manager spent two weeks heping me set up my round in Hamiton. As promised, from day one I coud see the money coming in. My wife and I had actuay started stocking up and fiing the cupboards with pasta and tins whie I sti had a saary in case we ended up with our backs against the wa, but that never eventuated. At present I m doing a soid 6:30am to 1pm shift on weekdays, which gives me freedom to do what I want in the afternoons. Then there s the weekend events at severa venues, I can make as much in a two-hour morning as on a norma working day! Wherever you get a concentration of peope you get the demand for good coffee, and if you re there to provide it you can do very we in this business. Christine Brown, Christchurch. In 2007, Christine eft her job in banking and joined The Coffee Guy to estabish our first franchise in Christchurch. I know that banks often ook more favouraby on someone starting up a franchise than they do on someone starting a business from scratch. A good franchise offers the security of we-aid-out business pans, strong marketing and immediate business. Those are the quaities The Coffee Guy has proven time and time again. As for the quaities essentia to be a successfu franchisee with The Coffee Guy, Christine says, The most important common denominator is to be a peope person with good organisationa abiities and punctua habits. Our customers in workpaces everywhere soon come to rey on us for their reguar fix. Christine operates the franchise Monday to Friday, and her husband, Robbie, heps out in the weekends. Justine Hughes, New Pymouth. Justine estabished The Coffee Guy New Pymouth in October As written in Franchise New Zeaand magazine, Justine Hughes is coming up to her fifth anniversary as The Coffee Guy in New Pymouth, and doesn t pan on stopping any time soon. Why give up something I enjoy so much? I don t know what ese I coud do that woud give me this much money, aow me to be home for the kids after schoo and et me enjoy contact with so many peope during the day. Everyone knows The Coffee Guy I even get invited to companies Christmas parties. Peope say to me, We ook out of the window and see you driving up at the same time every day and there s aways a big smie on your face. I think that s part of my job, to hep peope smie and take a itte time out in a busy day. Today, Justine achieves between 100 and 160 coffees on an average day, with an extra staff member three mornings a week. I took her on at the start of the so-caed recession. There s been no decine for me many of those customers from the first week are sti with me and my business has just gone on growing! 10
