POSITION SUMMARY Position Title: Child Care Trainee Team: Carramar Early Childhood Education and Care Centre Reporting to: Teaching Director Reports: None Status: Full-time Location: 7 Karella Avenue, Carramar, NSW, 2163 Salary Award B. PROGRAM OVERVIEW Woodville Alliance Ltd (WA) is a not for profit community organization that has a vision for a fairer, more just society and improved quality of life for people in South West Sydney. We work in partnership with our communities to identify and build on the strengths and develop the resources, capacity and resilience of all members of our community. We do this through the provision of information, direct services, research, advocacy and social action. WA provide a range of services across the culturally diverse local government areas of Bankstown, Fairfield and Liverpool. Carramar Early Childhood Education and Care Centre is a long day care centre providing quality care and educational programs to children aged 1-5 years. It is managed by WA and is just one of the services that are offered by the organization for the community. It is licensed for 39 places and operating hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., 48 weeks in a year. C. JOB PURPOSE The primary objective of the child care trainee is to work as a member of a co-operative team to provide quality childcare whilst ensuring that the policies, procedures, values and philosophies of Woodville Alliance and Carramar Early Childhood and Education Centre and the Funding Authorities are observed and implemented. D. RELATIONSHIPS The position involves having professional and positive working relationships with colleagues, families and children at the centre. It also involves developing networks and relationships within the sector, with groups such as the following: Local community contacts Other service providers Local councils Representative organisations Health professionals
2 2 E. JOB REQUIREMENTS Key Result Area 1 CHILDREN Promote and guide positive behavior, endorsing best practice and utilising the behavior guidance policy. Provide a safe and healthy environment, ensuring compliance with the preventative health and safety policy, and promoting health and hygiene practices in the daily program. Become involved in all aspects of the children s daily routine through effective supervision, looking after individual needs during meal, rest and toileting times, and ensuring written documentation are up to date and of high quality. Provide appropriate education, care and support for children tailoring this to their needs Protect children and their rights through mandatory reporting. 1. No breach of behavior guidance policy. 2. No breach of preventative health and safety policy and ensure effective documentation of incidents, accidents, and/or illness, contacting relevant personnel when necessary. 3. Correct child to adult ratios are maintained at all times. 4. All documentation, specifically in regards to the children s development, the learning program, daily reflection and the children s daily information are up to date and of high quality, and adhering to the Programming and Planning procedures. 5. Following up on and carrying out any programs provided by any support team, specialist educators and medical professionals. All steps to mandatory reporting are met and all documentation is completed and kept confidential Key Result Area 2 FAMILIES/COMMUNITY Contributing to the positive marketing of the centre to encourage utilisation. Assist in developing positive partnerships with families at the centre and community members. Maintain a high level of professionalism especially with regards to confidentiality and privacy. Ensure exchange of information about their child/ren and important centre based information. 1. Actively participating in any centre and community events, as a means of also promoting the centre to the wider community. 2. Documentation containing confidential information is kept in a safe and secure location, and any that need to be discarded are shredded before throwing away or recycled ensuring that the privacy policy is adhered to and followed. 3. Encouraging the active participation of families in the daily life of the centre through conversations and invitations. Communicating daily with families, utilizing a number of means such as verbal and written, through documentation such as the daily reflection and daily information sheets. Key Result Area 3 STAFF Work co-operatively with colleagues, sharing responsibilities and housekeeping tasks. Establish and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues that are positive, respectful, fair and supportive. Attend staff meetings as required by the Director.

Ensuring that the child to adult ratios is maintained at all times and that the routine chores and writing of documentation are shared equally amongst each other, with responsibilities pertaining to anyone in particular carried out efficiently and effectively. 2. Attending room meetings and actively engaging in discussions about the program, the children, the room and so on in an appropriate and professional manner. 3. Following the grievance procedure in the event of a problem and/or disagreement with a colleague arising. Taking turns in documenting meeting minutes and actively participating in the discussions. Key Result Area 4 WORK, HEALTH AND SAFETY Show responsibility for personal health and safety Ensuring the health, safety and welfare of children, visitors and workers in the workplace. Complying with health and safety policies and procedures, and reporting any situation that may present a risk or near miss to oneself and others in the workplace. Assist in the daily maintenance of the Child Care Centre including cleaning, tidying and maintaining presentation 1. Reporting any work accidents or incidents to the Teaching Director and filling out appropriate documentation/forms. 2. Ensuring that all health and safety policies and procedures are followed, reporting any situation that may present as a risk to oneself and others in the workplace to the Teaching Director. Is proactive in ensuring the centre is clean and tidy at all times. Key Result Area 5 ADHERENCE TO COMPANY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES Adhere to and demonstrate commitment to company HR policies and procedures as varied or created by WA from time to time. Adhere to and demonstrate commitment to company WHS policies risk management framework and safe working practices as dictated and a varied or created by WA from time to time. Adhere to working conditions as stipulated in employment contract Demonstrate adherence and commitment to meeting all key result areas of position description Adhere to all relevant employment legislation as dictated by state and federal legislation inclusive of WHS Act 2011 and it s regulations Ensure all activities comply with WA & funding bodies policy and relevant legislative and regulatory requirements ensuring no nonconformance reports F.
