1 Frequently Asked Questions (Last revised on 12/1/2006) Q. Are the new 401k and the ESOP the same plan or separate plans? A. The JELD-WEN ESOP and the new JELD-WEN 401k Retirement Savings Plan are two separate, but complementary, retirement plans that employees have the opportunity to participate in. Q. In the past, I have made 401k contributions into the ESOP. Can I continue to do this? A. Employee contributions will no longer be allowed in the ESOP starting 1/1/2007. Instead, you will have the option to make tax-deferred contributions into the new, diversified JELD-WEN 401k Savings Plan. Q. How much can I contribute during the year (normal deferrals and catch-up)? A. The 10% limit that has been in the JELD-WEN ESOP is no longer in effect. You may now contribute up to the IRS limit of $15,500. (Highly compensated employees, as defined by the IRS, may only contribute 5% of their gross wages up to the IRS limit.) If you are 50 years old or older anytime during 2007, you are eligible to make additional catch-up contributions into the JELD-WEN 401k Savings Plan up to the IRS limit of $5,000. Q. How do I elect catch-up contributions? A. After January 2, 2007, call the Scwhab Retirement Hotline at or visit them on the web at to elect catch-up contributions. Q. If I contribute to the new 401k Plan, is there a Matching Company contribution and which plan does it go into? A. JELD-WEN will match your 401(k) contributions, dollar for dollar, up to the 2% maximum subject to the ESOP eligibility rules (still employed by the Company on December 31 and have worked 1000 hours). This discretionary matching Company contribution will be made annually into the JELD-WEN Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Q. Will JELD-WEN still give a Company contribution in addition to the Match and where does it go? A. JELD-WEN will still be giving the discretionary Regular Company contribution (subject to the ESOP eligibility rules as explained above) and it will go into your account in the ESOP.

2 Q. What happens to the money I have in the ESOP? A. Any money that is in the ESOP remains in the ESOP. The ESOP will continue to be administered by the JELD-WEN Retirement Benefits Department. You will continue to receive an annual ESOP statement. Q. Can I take money from the JELD-WEN ESOP/401k and transfer it to the new 401k Plan with Schwab? A. The only money that can be transferred from the JELD-WEN ESOP/401k to the new 401k Plan with Schwab is money taken as a diversification. Diversification distributions are available for those participants that are 55 years old or older with ten or more years of participation in the Plan. Q. If I am eligible to take an ESOP diversification, what investment choices will I have for that distribution? A. Active employees will be able to transfer the ESOP diversification distribution into the new 401k Plan with Schwab. The monies will then be invested per existing investment instructions. Terminated employees may take their diversification distribution as cash or roll the money into another qualified plan or IRA of their choosing. Q. Is there a limit to how many funds I can choose from in the new 401k Plan? A. A total of 14 funds are available in the new Plan. The fund investment information is available at by calling the Hotline ( ) or by logging in to Q. How often can I change my investment selection or contribution amount and how would I do this? A. From November 27, 2006 through December 15, 2006, you can choose your investment selection and contribution rate by completing the EASY Enrollment form available at your onsite meeting in November or December; by calling the Schwab Retirement Plan Hotline at ; or by enrolling online via the Schwab Retirement Plan website ( No contribution or investment changes will be allowed between the enrollment deadline of December 15 and the start of the plan on January 1 st. Additionally, you may change investment selections or contribution rates at any time before December 15, 2006 and after January 2, Q. How can I talk to a live representative at Schwab? A. You can call the Schwab Retirement Plan Hotline at between the hours of 7a.m. and 11p.m. Eastern time. Do not enter your Social Security Number when prompted, just wait 5 seconds. You will then be prompted to hold or enter a 1. Press 1, then enter your Social Security Number and you will be connected with a live representative. Q. What if I don t enroll between November 27, 2006 and December 15, 2006? A. If you do not enroll you will be automatically enrolled at the Company match rate of 2% and your contribution will be invested in the American Funds Income Fund.

3 Q. Who can I talk to for investment advice? A. You can call Schwab at between the hours of 7a.m. and 11p.m. Eastern time for help with your investments. Q. How can I learn more about this new Plan? A. To learn more about your new Plan, you can read the newsletter that was mailed to your home in November, attend a meeting at your facility (check the posters at work to confirm your meeting day and time), and visit the launch website ( Q. What should I do if I cannot make it to the live meetings that are scheduled? A. If you cannot attend a live meeting, check out the recorded webcast meetings that are listed on the launch website ( or call the Schwab Retirement Plan Hotline at between the hours of 7a.m. and 11p.m. Eastern time. Q. How does the recorded webcast meeting work? A. To hear the recorded webcast meeting (approximately 45 minutes long), you will need a computer with a sound card. Log on to (English) or (Spanish). The slides will progress automatically. Q. I m currently contributing to the JELD-WEN ESOP/401k. Will my contributions stay at that same rate? A. No, you must enroll in the new Plan with Scwhab and elect your contribution rate. This rate will apply to deferrals taken from your paycheck beginning in Q. I m currently contributing to the JELD-WEN 401k so why does it say my current % is 0% at the Schwab website? A. Because the JELD-WEN 401k Retirement Savings Plan is a new plan, it is unknown what your current deferral rate is so it is defaulted to 0%. To begin contributing to the new 401k Plan, you must choose a contribution rate and investments. Furthermore, if you do not choose a contribution rate and investments, or do not choose to opt out you will automatically be enrolled at the rate of 2% and your funds will be invested in the American Funds Income Fund. Q. I do not want to make 401k contributions, how do I opt out? A. You must call the Retirement Plan Hotline at or go to the web at and enter your Social Security Number and PIN (month and date of your birth) and select Option 2 to opt out. Q. Can I contribute a flat dollar amount each paycheck or do I have to choose a percentage only? A. If using the EASY enrollment form you will have to choose a percentage to contribute. If you want to choose a flat dollar amount you must call the Retirement Plan Hotline (# above) or access your account on the web.

4 Q. Is the beneficiary form I filled out for the ESOP used for the new 401k Plan also? A. No, the beneficiary form for the ESOP only applies to ESOP funds; you must submit a new beneficiary form for your retirement account with Schwab. You can do this via the Retirement Plan Hotline or on the web. Your beneficiary in the ESOP and the new 401k Plan are not required to be the same person. Married participants not naming their spouse as 100% primary beneficiary will need to submit a paper copy (available at onsite meetings or by calling the Hotline) with their spouse s signature notarized. If you submit a beneficiary on the web and do not name your spouse as 100% primary beneficiary you will be sent a paper copy to be notarized. Q. Is there a service fee to maintain my account at Schwab? A. Yes, there is a fee of $7.00 per quarter as long as there are funds in your account through the JELD-WEN 401k Savings Plan. This fee will be shown on the participant s quarterly statement and subtracted from their balance. Q. Are there any fees for selecting or changing funds within the new 401k Plan? A. No. The $49.95 fee mentioned on the fund fact sheets is for brokerage accounts, not for the JELD-WEN 401k Plan. There are 3 funds that have redemption fees if you reallocate your investments after only holding the funds for a short period of time, usually less than 60 days. Q. When I terminate employment with JELD-WEN may I leave my money in the JELD-WEN 401k Savings Plan? A. Terminated employees cannot leave their money in the JELD-WEN 401k Savings Plan but will have the opportunity to roll their account into a Schwab IRA account or any other qualified plan or IRA of their choosing or may take a cash distribution subject to applicable income taxes. Schwab will send information about these options when notified by the Company that you are no longer working for JELD-WEN. Any account under $1,000 will automatically be paid in cash less required taxes. Q. Can I still take a hardship from my ESOP/401k account? Are there hardship provisions in the new Plan? A. Hardships are still allowed from the ESOP/401k subject to availability and IRS requirements. Hardship withdrawals are also available from the new Plan subject to availability and IRS requirements and after exhausting all other resources including loans from the new Plan. Additionally, deferrals are suspended for six months after a hardship is granted from the new plan. Q. You just mentioned loans. Are they available from the ESOP as well as the new Plan? How do I get a loan? A. Loans are not available from the ESOP but are available from the new Plan. No more than one loan may be outstanding at any time. The minimum amount of a loan is $1,000 and the maximum amount of a loan is the lesser of 50% of your account balance or $50,000, reduced by the highest outstanding balance within the previous 12 months from any other loan. You pay the loan back to your account in the 401k plan with interest over a period you select in your application of up to 5 years. If you believe you qualify for a loan from the JELD-WEN 401k Savings Plan, call the Hotline at

5 Q. Are there any other reasons I can take money out of my Schwab account besides loans or hardships if I am still an active employee at JELD-WEN? A. The only other time money can be taken out of your Scwhab account while still an active employee at JELD-WEN is when you turn 70½ years old.
