2 About us We are responsible for delivery of public transport in the West Midlands. Our aim is to create a world class public transport network delivered by a best in class organisation. We represent the seven metropolitan councils of the West Midlands: Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton. In partnership with those authorities, we work to ensure everyone benefits from an effective transport system that meets the economic and environmental needs of the region, as well as providing access to jobs, finding innovative ways to help reduce congestion and offering seamless connections for people and goods to home and overseas markets. We manage the English Travel Concessionary Scheme in the West Midlands for those at the age of entitlement, blind and disabled and children. There are 537,000 card holders making 75 million journeys a year. The scheme entitles pass holders to free bus travel in England and free rail and Metro travel in the West Midlands area. Our many sites include bus stations and Travel Information Centres as well as our main offices at Centro House in Birmingham city centre. We ensure staff keep in touch, share ideas and have access to information where ever they are based. We give people more sustainable travel options including cycle routes and storage, maintenance and safe riding courses and security marking. We also promote safe walking routes and how to consider which journeys you could make on foot. We deliver in a complex and dynamic environment, from national transport policy to cleaning bus shelters, and working with key stakeholders. This requires a flexible, adaptable organisational service culture. We also recognise our responsibilities as a not for profit organisation, and balance innovation and creativity with value for money and better ways of working. This means partnership, professionalism and excellence in everything we do.
3 Role Profile To lead on the development of technical work streams associated with the Midlands Connect programme. Accountabilities (Deliverables): Undertaking transport planning and analytical work to support preparation of evidence base for Midlands Connect. Assisting with analysis relating to economic data, transportation/traffic engineering projects including traffic modeling, database, spread sheet and proprietary modeling coding and interrogation. Preparation of technical reports and presentations relating to Midlands Connect as required in line with the MC Strategic Board requirements Working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design. Liaising with the Programme Director and Strategy Manager to keep informed of all developments associated with the programme. Responsibilities (Duties): Undertake research, feasibility studies, consultation, market testing and data analysis to inform the scoping of projects and development of Business Cases. You will be of an analytical mind and high level of intellect combining excellent written and oral skills to produce considered and robust reports and recommendations Co ordinate and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, ensuring that the dependencies between them are effectively identified and managed. Ensures that coherent up to date schedules and milestone plans are in place and are regularly monitored to drive the delivery of projects and activities against agreed timescales. Oversees the delivery of projects and activities, managing all external contractors assigned to the project, managing the performance of the project and chairing project team meetings to coordinate effective delivery. Assisting in the resolution of complex technical issues.

To participate in any learning and development activity required to effectively carry out the duties of the role and to participate in the Performance Development Plan process. Qualifications: (The qualifications below are not necessarily required in all cases, but indicate the level of intellect required to perform the duties of the post). Degree or equivalent in a related field such as Transportation Planning. Membership of a professional body in a related field (CILT etc). Skills/Knowledge/Experience: Experience in the field of Transport Planning. Good working knowledge of transport modelling practices, government guidance on transport scheme appraisal and the preparation of funding bids. Experience of contract management and managing consultants. Good Communication and inter personal skills. Negotiation skills.

There may be a requirement to work outside normal hours on occasion to meet work deadlines, attend events and meetings etc. The post holder may be asked to attend external events which may include lifting and carrying exhibition stands and boxes.

The pass also entitles you to a Friends and Family discount, as well as enabling you to monitor the Network. Childcare vouchers enable you to pay your provider quickly and easily. You can pay up to 243 per month (HMRC conditions apply) and receive TAX and NI savings via salary sacrifice. NB: This benefit will cease from October 2015) A role specific entitlement to assist you in performing your duties, approved by your manager. Equipment includes mobile phones, laptops and tablet devices. Reduced rates via Corporate membership available for Centro employees. Gym s are provided by Birmingham City Council and offer a range of facilities. Enables you to purchase a cycle and cycle equipment via salary sacrifice over 12 months resulting in TAX and NI savings. You can purchase a cycle and cycle equipment through this scheme to the value of 1,000. Free 24/7 advice on any challenges you encounter in life from moving house to family crises. The free advice service allows you to save money by not liaising with costed advice. Those employees who are eligible for the Flexible Working Scheme are able to accrue hours when the needs or the business require extra hours to be worked. They are then able to take TOIL at a later date. Free breakdown cover for essential car users worth 58 per annum. Available to essential car users only by election.

You also get a free wine tasting experience when you take up the offer. The next window to purchase the membership will be communicated to you in due course, membership is valid for a year and costs which is deducted from your salary over 2 consecutive months. Entitles you to reduced rates via our Corporate membership available for all Centro employees. Premiums start at 1.35 per week on a number of reimbursements for medical expenses. You are also able to add your partner and children. Subsidised rates for Acupressure and many other Health & Wellbeing therapies. Progression is on 1 April each year provided performance is satisfactory and you have completed six months service within the post (with no other pay rises). Independent support and advice in matters relating to health in the workplace. Cost of support is absorbed by Centro. Above statutory minimum entitlement. Entitlement criteria applies.
