1 Coordinator, Strategic School Operations Pilot Pay Plan: EG- 13 Grade: EG Step/Salary: 1-4 / $58,689 $64,337 Location: Washington, DC Our public school students need your expertise, passion and leadership. We are looking for highly motivated and skilled talent to join our team at the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). We seek individuals who are passionate about transforming the DC school system and making a significant difference in the lives of public school students, parents, principals, teachers, and central office employees. DCPS serves over 46,000 students in the nation s capital through the efforts of approximately 4,000 educators in 111 schools. As part of a comprehensive reform effort to become the preeminent urban school system in America, DCPS intends to have the highest- performing, best- paid, most- satisfied, and most- honored educator force in the nation and a distinctive Central Office staff whose work supports and drives instructional excellence and significant achievement gains for DCPS students. Position Overview The Office of Human Capital (OHC) ensures that DCPS has the most effective teachers, principals, and Central Office staff in the nation so that we can provide all DCPS students with a world- class education that prepares them for college, career, and life. OHC is currently comprised of four divisions: 1. Human Resources 2. Teacher Effectiveness 3. Principal Effectiveness 4. Central Office Effectiveness The Teacher Effectiveness (TE) division works to ensure that there is a highly effective educator in every classroom and school- based position. Teacher Effectiveness is comprised of two teams: 1. IMPACT 2. Teacher Effectiveness Strategy The Coordinator, Strategic School Operations Pilot position will be part of the Teacher Effectiveness Strategy (TES) team. The TES team develops and implements initiatives to recruit, develop, recognize, and retain a high- performing teacher force through four strands of work: The Teacher Recruitment and Selection team is responsible for the design and implementation of DCPS s rigorous teacher recruitment and selection process. To support teacher recruitment, the team also manages the highly selective Capital Commitment Fellowship for top incoming
2 teachers, DCPS s partnerships with Teach For America and DC Teaching Fellows, and the Teacher Selection Ambassadors and Social Media Ambassadors initiatives. The Teacher Retention and Recognition team is responsible for the LIFT (Leadership Initiative For Teachers) teacher career ladder, district- wide teacher recognition including the annual A Standing Ovation for DC Teachers event at the Kennedy Center, the Teaching In Action peer observation initiative, and other efforts aimed at recognizing and retaining the district s best teachers. The Strategy team is responsible for the design of the IMPACT evaluation system; manages DCPS s $62 million Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF) grant, which supports various teacher leadership opportunities; and leads the Strategic School Operations pilot, the Teacher Leadership Innovation pilot, and a variety of internal leadership opportunities. The Teacher Development Strategy team leads the MyPD pilot, an innovative and personalized approach to teacher professional development launching with 12 schools in the school year. The team also manages the EdPortal+ online learning platform. The Coordinator, Strategic School Operations Pilot will join a community of professionals committed to proving what s possible for traditional urban public school districts. Through excellent instruction, DCPS teachers and school leaders are accelerating student achievement and closing the gap between students from low- income backgrounds and their more affluent peers. But excellent instructional leadership isn t enough; our schools need high- performing operations teams and systems to ensure teachers and school leaders can focus on instruction and student achievement. Beginning in the school year, DCPS will pilot a dramatically new approach to managing school operations based on the work of the highest- performing charter and district schools across the country. Nine DCPS schools will be selected to participate in the Strategic School Operations (SSO) pilot, with the hope of expanding this model across the district in future years. All pilot schools will add a school- based Director of School Operations (DSO) position to fully oversee and manage all school operations. The Coordinator, Strategic School Operations Pilot will support the Director, Strategic School Operations in the design and implementation of the pilot. S/he will maintain and analyze data, provide scheduling and logistical support, and support the school- based Directors of School Operations and their teams as necessary. A critical component of the Coordinator, Strategic School Operations Pilot will be to ensure the smooth collaboration and alignment between the nine pilot schools and central office. The Coordinator, Strategic School Operations Pilot must be able to communicate effectively with community partners, vendors, DCPS central office departments, and school- based staff. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, extremely organized, creative and solutions- oriented, systematic, and committed to supporting school leaders and Directors of School Operations in building high- performing, high- functioning schools. The Coordinator, Strategic School Operations Pilot will report to the Director, Strategic School Operations Pilot.
