4 Academics Each summer the University of Virginia offers a rich selection of courses to more than four thousand students through its Summer Session. Many of these courses are not available during the academic year. Summer Session students have access to an array of support services and extra-curricular activities. The small classes offered during Summer Session are delivered in an intensive format (2.25 meeting hours each day, M-F) offer maximum student-faculty interaction and allow students to immerse themselves in a topic - experiencing the best in U.S higher education. This was a very worthwhile course with amazing instructors that were always supportive and caring. I have learned a great deal about myself and the professional world. Summer Session Student

5 Student Life Visiting students enjoy all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of resident U.Va. students as well as access to University housing, dining services, Student Health, recreational sports facilities, and academic resources including the University s renowned library system. The Office of Summer and Special Academic Programs serves as the academic home for visiting students and provides a special orientation at the beginning of each of the three main sessions. I enjoyed the open dialogue format of my course - it allowed for me to share my takeaways from the readings, but also to hear others opinions, which allowed for me to view the concepts in perspectives that I otherwise wouldn t have. Summer Session Student Students are introduced to academic and non-academic resources available to them, review the Honor System, tour the campus with a staff guide, and learn about opportunities outside of the classroom opportunities at the University, in Charlottesville and in Central Virginia. Several weekend trips are offered in the summer including trips to Monticello (the home of Thomas Jefferson), Washington, DC, and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819, the University remains one of the leading institutions of higher education in the United States today. U.S. News and World Report consistently ranks UVa among the top two public universities in the U.S. I learned more than I imagined I could. I loved being in class each day. Summer Session Student The University consists of 11 schools and offers 56 bachelor s degrees, 79 master s degrees, and 54 doctoral degrees. During Summer Session, visiting students experience the academic rigor of the summer courses and the architecture of Thomas Jefferson s Academical Village - a truly unique learning community and the only designated UNESCO World Heritage site among U.S. colleges and universities.

9 U.Va. Summer Programs Special Programs 2016 In addition to regular session classes, U.Va. Summer Session also offers a selection of special programs including: UVa Advance The Summer Language Institute English for Academic Purposes Morven Summer Institute There is something about the concentrated time together that enables students to really get to know each other and creates lasting relationships. Summer Programs About Charlottesville Charlottesville offers a unique combination of natural beauty, rich historical and cultural attractions, and close proximity to a national park and the nation s capitol. Charlottesville is a hub for the arts, entertainment, sports, shopping, commerce and health care services. It consistently earns high marks as one of the best places to live in the U.S. and is a major tourist destination. The Charlottesville airport (CHO) is served by American, Delta, United, and US Airways and each of the major airline alliances, SkyTeam, Star Alliance, and One World. Train service is provided by Amtrak and bus service by Greyhound. Washington, DC is 2.5 hours by car and Richmond in 1.25 hours by car. Complete the University of Virginia Application for Permission to Enroll for Visiting Students. 3. International students will need to follow the directions included in the application concerning the International Student Form I-20/Form DS-2019 Request Packet. 4.
