1 Midland College Educational Program Assessment Associate Degree Nursing The Associate Degree Nursing program prepares graduates for successful performance the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX- RN) and for employment in the field of nursing. Assessment Summary Key Findings Management of Care principles: Performance was acceptable except for fall generic cohort. Safety and Infection Control principles: Performance not acceptable for any cohort. Health Promotion and Maintenance principles: Performance not acceptable for any cohort. Psychosocial Integrity principle: Performance not acceptable for any cohort. Basic Care and Comfort principles: Performance not acceptable for any cohort but transition. Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapy principles: Performance not acceptable for any cohort. Reduction of Risk Potential principles: Performance not acceptable for any cohort. Physiological Adaptation principles: Performance not acceptable for any cohort but fall generic. NCLEX pass rate was below Board requirement in Less than 80% of the graduates passed the NCLEX-RN exam last year, although greater than 80% of the graduates passed the NCLEX-RN exam in the two years prior. This pass rate is consistent with the student learning assessment results and represents a significant change in program effectiveness. Plan for Improvement Implement more rigorous progression Review alignment of instructional objectives to 2010 NCLEX test plan. Require online pharmacology course students to take proctored exams and standardize pharmacology course requirements. Incorporate ATI Pharmacology exam in 4 th semester. Implement revised and expanded Board of Nursing competencies. Revise admission criteria to include TOEFL requirement for international students. Utilize different NCLEX review course to better meet student needs. Change to medical-surgical textbook that has better readability. Consider purchasing Scantron testing equipment to allow for improved statistical exam analysis. Updates on Plan for Improvement (as of January 2013) Faculty determined that a more rigorous progression policy was not needed. Course objectives aligned with 2010 NCLEX test plan. Students take proctored exams on campus. ATI pharmacology content mastery exam integrated into RNSG 2370 Complex Clinical Decision Making, 4 th semester level. Integration of the differentiated competencies throughout the curriculum is in progress. TOEFL requirement added Spring Program contracted with a different NCLEX preparation company Spring The medical-surgical nursing textbook was changed effective summer Purchasing and integrating ScanTron and ParSystem is being considered.
