1 STUDENT FUNDING SERVICE Student Aid Fund 2015/2016 Application Application form guidance notes. The aim of the Student Aid Fund is to assist students whom are experiencing a crisis that has arisen as a result of a significant and unforeseen event that could not have been predicted in their financial planning for the current academic year. When applying to the Student Aid Fund you must be able to evidence the following: You commenced the current academic year with sufficient funds to support yourself and to pay your tuition fees. You or your sponsor has suffered a crisis which could not have been predicted and which is causing you severe financial hardship. The crisis took place after you registered for your current academic year. Who can apply? This fund is for all students who are currently registered at Lancaster University. Priority will be given to final year students. Deadline for Undergraduate students: 30th June 2016 Deadline for Postgraduate students: 30th September 2016 We aim to process your application with 3-4 weeks of receiving a completed application and all relevant evidence. How will the award be paid? If an award is made towards outstanding tuition or accommodation fees these will be paid directly to Finance. If the award is for living costs it will be paid directly to the student via BACS to a nominated account. How much help is available? Grants may be awarded up to a maximum of 3,000 per student. If an award is agreed to be paid from the Student Aid Fund directly towards an outstanding University debt then any amount owing which exceeds the award amount will remain the responsibility of the student to pay prior to any payment being made from the Student Aid Fund. To ensure that the Student Aid Fund will be able to make the payment this debt must be paid in the agreed timescale as detailed in your award letter. Failure to reduce the debt in this timescale may result in withdrawal of the award. Please be aware that the normal rules apply and you may still not be able to attend graduation if the debt is not cleared prior. All procedures used to recover debts will still apply.

2 What evidence will need to be provided to support your application? If financial hardship has been caused by the withdrawal of sponsorship, you must submit evidence that your sponsor has suffered a crisis that is preventing them from continuing with their support. For example: Medical evidence from a doctor or a hospital Evidence from an accountant that your sponsor s finances have been affected by a crisis such as political upheaval, natural disaster or economic crisis. Evidence from the police, local government officials or an insurance company You must submit evidence to support your claim that a sponsor was supporting you with tuition fees and living costs up to the point of crisis. This could be evidence of: Direct transfer of money for fees paid to Lancaster University. Transfer of money for fees/ living costs from your sponsor s bank account to your bank account You will also need to submit a statement in support of your application. Applications will not be processed without sufficient evidence.
